  • psee in anti shocker! ;)

    FBNPNA tho

  • anti
    FBNPNA

Aren't they the opposite these days? :)

Forks look ok I think and the guards are awesome.

  • Took it out yesterday and it rides wonderfully in this setup. Doesn't feel sluggish at all.

  • Love this bike! Custom steel is the way to go

  • Looks awesome! What mudguards are you using? They look really minimal but do the job.

  • Look like PDWs.

  • Looking to go 1x11. What is the cheapest (and best) way of doing this without buying a new gruppo?

Wolftooth chainring. Bigger 11s MTB cassette. MTB clutch mech and a JTEK Shiftmate for mating the 5800 shifters with the mech. Would work?

Edit: Is there even 11's Shimano MTB mech available? Lost

  • I had a 105 5800 mediumcage derailleur combined with a 11-32t and a compact chainset.
Shimano says that derailleur only works up to 32t, but I suspect it could work with the 11s 11-40t XT m8000 cassette in a single ring setup.

  • Couldn't you run a sram mtb rear derallieur so not needing a shift mate, as they work with sram shifters and as sram and shimano 11speed are spaced the same. Then the halo or superstar narrow wide chain rings are cheaper

  • Shimano/Sram are not compatible.

  • You want to buy my Rotor 3d plus and absolute black 42t narrow wide combo with BSA BB? 165mm.

Also if you have the brakes set up front = left, rear = right then I have a spare sram S500 right hand lever; just get a used 11 speed sram shifter, MTB mech, wolftooth ring.

  • Ignore me - I got confused between cassette and derallieur compatability

  • Sunrace make a very reasonably priced 12-42 which you can use with a short cage zee mech.

  • I would definitely try with a new chainring and your existing mech before worrying about a clutch mech.

I've been running 1 x for a few weeks now with an old campag chainring and an old mtb mech and haven't had any issues with chain drop, I reckon a narrow wide and standard mech is gonna be good enough, you can always change the mech out if you have issues (which i doubt you will)

  • I run a n/w with a 105 rear derailleur, never had a problem with chain dropping off. I have an almost new zee mech in the parts bin if you go that way.

  • I run di2 1*11 also without issues. Even when i'm racing 'cross.

  • Thanks. Just remembered that a buddy ran wolftooth and 10s rival an entire cross season without issues. Will try that.

  • never dropped a chain on my 1x10 105-setup. No narrow-wides, no chain guides or anything. Just put the derailleur spring on the stiffer setting and you're good to go.

  • you said a few pages ago you would have chose a different tube set for this frame? Why is this?

  • Just a bit heavy as it is. Spirit would've been nice.

  • Cant be that heavy? considering I ride a 10kg All city!

  • With the fork and mudguard, you're looking at around 10.5-11kg.

  • Looking to go 1x11. What is the cheapest (and best) way of doing this without buying a new gruppo?

    Bit late but;

    Chainring.

    Shorten chain.

    That's it.

BTW Wolftooth are awesome, but isn't necessary as any narrow/wide will work.
