I think after a while people get used to it and are usually quite accommodating, it doesn't hurt to point them in the right direction sometimes... or you get used to eating pasta and red sauce...
A lot of people recommend Veganomicon and Vegan with a Vengeance, I have both and they've got a whole bunch of great recipes in them but personally I found it quite hard to motivate myself to cook any of it when I first went veggie/vegan. Thug Kitchen and Vegan Yum Yum on the other hand are a bit gimicky/same-y (respectively) but possibly better to start off with. Generally the recipes are pretty straightforward and tasty - no hunting round for weird spices, collards and pomegranate molasses... both have a good selection online too so you can try some of it out without spending any £££.

I think they sell it in Whole Foods so I'll have a look at lunch and see what I can find... I know they sell some other white chocolate that's lovely but I can't remember who make it

My aunt made that for me many years ago when we were visiting them. I have never been so full in my life! Just could not stop eating it. If you liked that you may well like Castagnaccio as well.

Funnily enough, just picked one up in Whole Foods, was probably more expensive than gold in there, but it's worth it!

What about tubs of vegan vanilla ice cream? Since finding out Greggs mince pies are vegan, this is all I need to complete my Winterval...

Considering taking the plunge into the unknown today. Have been watching a few documentaries about the topic, read a few articles also. My girlfriend currently works at a health food store, and studied bio-medical science and we have both been openly talking about the ideas of cutting back and cutting meat out completely of our diets. Reasons behind it are the cruelty to the animals and also the health benefits of restricting or cutting out animal products in one's diet.
A friend sent me this video this morning, and it has made me really consider the idea even more : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_K36Zu0pA4U
However, I am worried, well scared of the unknown to be honest.
my concerns are:
- I exercise regularly and go to the gym often. Im also trying to 'bulk'. I am worried if I cut out all animal proteins I will loose a lot of weight.
- I am allergic to nuts, thus I will miss out on a massive non animal protein source here.
- I am worried that the meals will get boring and repetitive
- I am twenty years old, and I have been eating animals and their products for as long as I can remember.
- Its nearly christmas and I am going to miss turkey dinner tremendously.
Sorry to be boring, thought I'd just ask peoples experiences, we all ride, do some of you guys gym also? What foods do you use for energy fat/ protein sources?
-Protein I have: Peas, Avocado, pulses, beans
-Fats/ energy: Fruits, vegies, pasta, vegan bread,Sorry for spam.
Cheers
Mattie

Cool! Castagnaccio I don't know, but the place I ate Farinata first is Lunigiana, south of Liguria, where chestnuts feature heavily in the cuisine... so I'm guessing the name comes from Castagna. Is your aunt from that part of the world?
They make other amazing pancake-like things there too, testaroli and panigacci, both wheat based things made on fires or in wood-ovens, and another farinata thing made from rice I can't remember the name of.
But Farinata is my favourite. I'm making another one today, my batter is resting now.

there are vegan body builders so it shouldn't be a problem.

I ride and "gym out" 5 times a week. Been a Vegan longer than I care to remember. My primary source of protein are super pea and rice protein isolate from Bulk Powders. I either just drink shakes or make "protein bars" (dates, prunes, dark chocolate blended with protein powder). Only cos I'm too lazy to cook properly and most of the time I'm stuck on a mono-diet composed of banana and peanut smoothies.

yeh I've seen the stuff about the vegan body builders, main issues is the not being able to eat nuts for me. I think a lot of vegan protein bars and energy bars contain nuts for the protein compensation. Will probably have to consider making my own...
@Dakin yeh tha't what I'm hoping, feeling very tired in general, I eat healthily ATM trying to avoid sugar bar natural sugar. Still feeling very fired. Thinking that meat may have something to do with it...
@Thrasher would be well down.
been meanin to go for ages. their food looks so good. im down to meet some spindly vegans
