  • Deep tread (or knobblies) is/are more useful on mud or leaves as the tyre has more chance to push through the slippery stuff and get to the solid ground below. But it's a trade off as they'll leave you less grip on normal road surfaces compared to slicks.

    Shallow tread will, if anything, be worse than slicks. Less grip on clear road and no chance to bite through the slippery stuff.
