I haven't got time to build a new machine. Tempted to just shell out for a HP box. What would Jesus do?
-
• #2128
Buy mine once I realise I have no use for it.
Pre built PC's look super grim... -
• #2129
I know and they're fucking expensive to get the same performance. :(
Thing is. I'd like to use the case I have to build into but I can't afford to kill my current machine while building a new one. If I just built a totally new one I get redundancy during the build and testing but I'm left with an old PC I'll have no need for. Buying a new pre-built is this, but quicker.

What about mobs like http://www.quietpc.com/systems ?

100% fanless sounds awesome. Mine is fucking noisy.

If I am not working I'll come and give you a hand (not euph).

• #2132
those are awesome but serious dollar

Wheaaayy!
Might have to take you up on that offer... will keep you posted on progress!
And, this actually looks decent, http://www.quietpc.com/sys-x490#configuratorSpecced out at £1,698.43 is pretty decent and Hackable....

• #2134
@hippy They look nice but pretty expensive. The linked one looks to be about double the price of an equivalent system (without the fanless).
Last time I built mine up I re-built my old PC into a cheapo twenty quid case for backup. Obviously there's a slight risk that you may screw up re-building it and have no backup.

Business will pay...
I wish.
-
• #2136
Factor in the fact I'm also feckin' lazy.
Good idea re: cheap case. I think I'd build up a full new one though.
-
• #2137
I specced my version of that out to £1500. Looks good but I like the idea of totally fanless, given the dust in my current unit..
-
• #2138
It doesn't have to be totally fanless. I run my own system but use water cooled CPU. My 970 GTX actually does not run fans at all until it's over 45c. So basically it's silent until I start a game.
To remain silent when gaming, that starts costing $$

Will I need to worry about cooling on a media server running hd4400 graphics?
-
• #2140
Not really but liquid cooling for CPU is like £30 it'll make it even more quiet.
-
• #2141
Cool. I'll see if I can get the damn thing built and working first...
-
• #2142
I now have everything except the wifi card or usb wifi adapter. Not sure which to go for, tempted by the USB solution for less bits and bobs in a cramped case.
Also, spend so far £222. BOSH! -

Sorry for spam, but would anyone be interested in a Alienwave 13 laptop. Got it at the start of the year but haven't put it to good use at all

Help please! Why would my SD card not be readable / not recognised as a devise with removable storage? Tryed the computers card reader and independent card reader. Uninstalled drivers, re-installed drivers. Nothing

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of moving away from console to PC for gaming. Found this link about a cheap budget build for under £500. I'm also thinking of also adding a SSD drive to it as well.
Do you think that the specs are sufficient to use this PC as a gaming PC.
Any feedback would be nice

You might want to up the video card a bit. Another £50-£70 would get you a GTX 970 or an R9 290 which are a substantial improvement.
-
• #2147
Might also be able to cut the i5 to an i3 as most games aren't optimised well for more cores.
And ssd at later date.
-
• #2148
looks ok but the GPU and CPU could be better. The case puts the PSU at the top, which isn't ideal and you will probably want at least one more fan.
-
• #2149
Bearing in mind with the budget that I have, do you guys thinks it's not a bad start for a PC?

You could check the various Reddit builds

Granted those are US prices, but it shouldn't be very expensive in the UK (it's 505 quid at direct translation)
Basically, changes the graphics card for an MSI R9 370 ... it's a bit more expensive (50quid) but destroys the one you picked and will be good for another couple of years.
Cheers for that. I might have to post a photo of all my bits once I have them... I have a feeling it's not going to be easy as my case is tiny and my PSU non modular. But hey ho, its what I wanted. I don't have a card atm (running off HD 4400) so that gives me a little bit of extra room to play with, will get some small mid range card in the end (GTX 770?).
