I doubt they'll nuke rim brakes within a year of discs being road legal...

Nah, they'll likely to stop developing them, I reckon the latest (5800/6800/etc.) design is the last.

It'll be a slow roll out starting at DA/Ultegra but rims brakes definitely still stay on the lower tier groupsets.

stop developing is very different to stopping providing or rebadging for various groupsets.

I think they've got a good few years yet.
