  • Is there going to be any sensible/easy way to remove the plastic handle from the knife in this image and replace it with a diy wooden one?

My bro in law has given me his old one as he has upgraded.

  • I think it's pretty easy. I've seen some videos where people have made custom mora handles on YouTube and it seems pretty straightforward. I'm on my phone but try searching for custom mora handles on YouTube and I'm sure something will show up.

It doesn't help your current situation but I think they also sell blade blanks.

  • I think you can buy the Mora blades as blanks for your own projects. To get this one out, I would tape up the blade with electrical tape to protect you and it, bung it in a vice, and hacksaw the butt of the handle off as close as you can to the tang end without hitting it. Then it would be a case of just trying to nibble away from the handle up to the tang repeatedly. You could try a long horizontal cut along the top of the tang and then a vertical cut to meet it just at the point the tang widens. Remove enough of the handle from above and see if you can bash the bottom half off.

A dremel cutting disc might speed things up but some plastics just melt.
