Cheers, interesting point. I did think about wider rims but was put off when I found that the chainstay clearance dates from an era where narrow and tight was the order of the day...
I'm not sold on used wheels, although I guess TT sets are likely to have seen the lightest use. I'm nearly 90kg, maybe down to 84 on my best day, so have always felt like I'd rather not find a fault in a wheelset the hard way.
Will see what else I can find and give it some more thought.

With wire spokes, you are taking a chance on invisible ageing. 'Proper' discs and H3s are pretty bomb proof, plenty of Specialized trispokes are still running fine and they are all at least 20 years old by now.

I am a bit wary of old hed3 / specialized trispokes, having had the aluminium rim de-bond itself from the carbon after the heat from a short steep hill caused the epoxy to fail...

My main worry about 2nd hand h3s are all the the hipsters hopping up and down kerbs on their hhsb. Race wheels have probably seen an easier life.

Spend £400 on a HED3: beyond the budget of kerb-hoppers.

Which of Tops' books is the better read for someone about to start their 2nd TT season?
Yes, I've been asked for Christmas present ideas...

The first was more useful to me. The flying through the pain barrier one.

Anyone likely to ride the H10/8 on Dec 19th? I assume it's a 'fun' event rather than serious. I'm tempted to ride it on the fat(ish) bike just to eat cake afterwards.

You mean the December World Champs? I'll be attending, but not racing.

Yes, a few people are lining up to go sub-20:00 for 'fun'. There's a thread on TTF for pre-race bantz

Are you handing up bottles (of egg nogg) or something?
-
• #11388
Sub 20 would be fun.
I just had a look and our club 10 record is about a minute slower than I thought it was, so it's just entered the realm of the possible for me. Not in December mind you, but perhaps I could hit a fast course early in the year after smashing some intervals to see what happens.

If you get them to me before you start I can.
-
• #11390
I'll be there, hopefully with proper wheels this year
-
• #11391
Yeah i'm planning on doing it too.

Cheque entry. Haven't done one all year.
Forum showdown...

Doper caught at TT event.
Wonder if it'll be someone not checking their cough medicine. Or someone on something good.

A positive and another possible violation.
Annual report is a funny place to announce it but CTT are a company.

It'll probably be something like that though. Just an un-aware punter*.
*I hope.

Should've taken it to the Worlds then. I wouldn't have had so much trouble breathing. Doh.

That's a really good deal! Do you know anyone who has ridden PDQ bars? Seem like they have great adjustability for a pretty good price, just can't find any write-ups on them. I can't decide whether to go for those or the Ventus II.
-
• #11400
I know plenty of people who've got them, Ventus are better though.
...is most (if not all) of the way to a second hand disc (or some new Raltech covers) and a second hand Specialized trispoke/Hed3
