as well as the original constrictor rim rope- much thicker than rim tape in order to fill the crave of the rim, and some original curved constrictor spoke washers as well from Vintage Bike Cave:

The pedals are lyotard CA 45's which were made through the 40's and 50's. Again at least until I find some original raleigh ones that my pockets stretch too.

(the other lever is somewhere-just can;t find it at the minute!)
I also have a old brown brooks b17 narrow to fit, needs a bit of a clean, so just need a stem really as well as a few bits for the stormy wheels. I was thinking of a reynolds 2bolt girder type stem or similar for now until an original RRA head clip stem pop's up...if ever! This will be fitted to these bailey bend bars (better photo than earlier)

CAn't wait to get this built up, just got to save up for the mercian repaint and decals, as well as the wheels to be built.
Anyone have and advice/experience/recommendations for good wheel builders for vintage hubs and rims? Preferably near London of Nottingham? -

nice to see your bike with all original decals etc and paint-really wish I had all that but sadly not! IS it a RRA or a raleigh Clubman? Can't quite make out from the photo below.
If you still have the chainring you mentioned I would appreciate a picture, yes, as I may well be interested. PM me a message with picture on here if you can??
Thanks, in advance,

have collected a few more parts for the RRA - including a bloody hard to find RRA specific chainring with lovely heron detailing

I've also acquired a durax 3 pin crankset with lovely thin fluted arms, it's in pretty bad shape but I think it will scrub up well- so unsure wether to use this on the raleigh or the 2 arm Chater Lea... I'm erring towards the chatter lea as it leaves all 3 Herons on the chainring visible, but any thoughts welcome.

and after searching for years for one of these or trying to win one on ebay, I finally own not one, but two Bluemels spearpoint mudguard extensions- a cream Number 6 and a aluminium 6a (with original packaging).
I think I shall go for the cream one on this build, and either keep the other for another or sell it-I'm not so sure about it to be honest, although maybe it just needs to find the right bike...

The frame has gone off to Mercian to be re-enameled in British Racing Green (no32.- http://www.merciancycles.co.uk/colours
)which is the closest to the original colour I could find, and to have the transfers applied.I've also taken the rims and hubs there to be built up by them, because frankly I don't have anything like the skill or patience required to build them up myself, at least not to a point where they're rideable. Really looking forward to getting everything back-hopefully around Christmas.

Ha, this is the same stuff that I've been bidding on also! Sorry if I drove the prices up for you!
-
• #43
ha, sorry I beat you to them! What bits did you bid for?
-
• #44
Pretty sure I recognise the Catos toeclips and that white spearpoint from eBay!
-
• #45
oh, sorry- there's spoke other Catos toeclips on ebay at the minute-although they're not adjustable and they're really rather knackered.
There's also this: [http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluemels-white-front-mudguard-extension-no-16-1930s-/191734856859?hash=item2ca449bc9b:g:X3YAAOSw5VFWNiSN] although again not the best nick.

but you welcome to the aluminium one though- I think I paid £27 so your welcome to have it for that. It does have alight kink in it though which is hard to see on photos-just near the spearpoint end-it kind of shows up in the although it may be possible to press it out with some care. . I think it's 60's but can't be too sure.

Love that RRA chainring. Not seen one like that before.
I'm after a few early parts at the moment too, for my Parkes, so we might be in a three-way bidding war on a few things :D
-
• #48
ok, let the bidding begin. Anything in particular your looking for? And any pictures of the Parkes?

Lovely project. Really looking forward to seeing the new paint job.

Thanks, me too. Hoping to pick it up by Christmas...
I'm not sure about this too be honest, but have yet to see or win an original raleigh one. I choose this as the two arm design is very similar to the raleigh, but am debating getting a slightly smaller and more delicate looking continental style chainring to match up with the cranks, or maybe a williams 1200 chainring to go on the chatter lea or a set of durax 3 arm cranks.
I've also managed to get my hands on a period correct sturmey 3 speed lever and some cable in old stele ribbed black cable housing:
