Pulled the pin at 8hrs. Really struggling to breathe the cold air I think. Left it too long to add layers trying not to stop. Warmed up in car and tried final lap but coughing and spluttered to a halt. Officially dnf'd after sleep in car. I think I'll finish on a low and never ride another 24hr. :( Thanks all.

It is, admittedly, a little stupid that they do it in the middle of the desert, with high day/night temperature differences. Well, done, Stuart. 24s are not worthy of you. HTFU and do a 48-hour race next. :)

You'll be back, this was a simple gamble on timing that didn't quite work out. No glitches, no learning. Have a good break ;-)

he'll always be world champion in my eyes
Bugger - but he's not alone - looks like 8 DNFs so far, and the night is still young.
I DNFd this event on lap 18 last year with a septic big toe, and it doesn't matter what the reason, a DNF on a big race with a lot of time and cash invested in it really does take a long time to get over - @hippy will not be a happy chappy right now and for some time to come. Gutted for him.
