Good analogy. Niemöller was quite happy to defend Hitler and his Party at first, and was perhaps hinting at that when he was suggesting no-one would speak out for him.
Just as in Clive's case, we can suggest that his treatment was over the top, but he's definitely not innocent.
That's what you meant, right?

As I've said before, his employers were spineless and he deserves to work for a better company.
