EDIT - having just refreshed he's now lost 36 miles? Which puts Hippy (possibly according to my dodgy maths) about 7 miles off the lead.

His elapsed time looks to have slumped, compared to others since I last checked...

Bummer, something has not gone to plan for @hippy.

The timing is unusual - you initially get the distance as completed 18 mile laps, and the time the last lap was completed.

You use the time to rank riders with the same distance. Those with less time to comple x laps clearly went faster than those with more time for the same lap count.

Annoyingly, when you go to the short finishing laps, your actual final distance at 24h isn't calculated, you can only acheive a distance which is the total of all completed long laps and all completed short laps.

Even though you may have almost completed another short lap, it won't be counted as inclusive distance. Ranking is done on time to complete laps.

That said, it is a great course, if prone to mammoth headwinds on the uphill southern sector :-P

He said he wasn't in top form and he does seem to have an all-or-nothing attitude to racing, so may have cut his losses if it looked like being irretrievable.

I thought he'd wipe the floor with them considering how much beer doping he's done. The others must have drunk more, though. It's a rotten business.
