oops don't you hate that when you hit the end of the page mid post
Just struck a deal on this from a seller in Italy. I love the AD10 scheme, I already have one dressed in Dura Ace but this has full Campag Chorus which helped me justify just having to have it as well.
It’s coming ‘economy delivery’ so doubt I’ll see it for a good few days but very excited indeed.I was browsing, looking for a donor bike with a Chorus or Athena groupset to build up a Super frame that I currently have in single speed guise but I saw this but am not so sure that I’ll break it. The groupset would be perfect for the Super and I’d really fancy doing modernish groupset build on the Master, something like Record Carbon 10 speed but I doubt very much that’ll happen and I’ll most likely just keep it as it is………….well not the saddle and bar tape anyhow

i just answered your email to my blog regarding it, i'd say it's the real deal circa 84

I differ, and posit that it's been refinished with a passing resemblance to a master piu.
even then the fades were for higher spec frames than a super, and had the checker pattern fade, usually over white.
this is a good fade job, but back of stays, mismatched HT to ST and BB, and no checkering, not convinced..

i have had two master pui, got one now
the pui was early 90's and had internal tt guide
this example has two external tt cable guides , consistant with 80's colnagos
my current
my ex
the pui has more detailed ht lug cut outs also -

that's why I said passing resemblance, here's a '88 MP
super from same catalogue:
a later respray in homage to a later era, that's my opinion

we are referencing the same catalogue year, at least we agree on summat!
no checkering fade on matey boys super though, and too heavy handed with the spray gun - imho, later respray (of a genuine super) in homage to late 80's / early 90's sikfaydz era

given this from the 88
and this from 83/84
i am a little uncertain as to whether this is 83 or 88, i will be finishing this week once i send the sloping crown forks home
my old nuovo mexico decals were same font,(and is 83-84) so i assume super is from same era

I think your Saronni red one is even older (82?) as the headtube lug on the 83 (and later) models don't have the "dent".

i'm not here to argue with you mate
i question the respray
mate, look at the rear drop out, still chromed clearly, if a respray shirley thee drop outs would have been done
every respray i've seen done has the dropouts done
as ever, we disagree, i'm going with og fade -

no Wim, at least 83 as it does not have the fluted , stamped seat stay caps but rounded
-
• #1215
well spotted "re dent" though, must be 84 then ;0)

Aha, didn't know about that feature. Makes my Super pre-83 as it has fluted, stamped seat stay caps.
Had a look at the 1986 catalog to find out what groupset could have been on my Master (headset looks like C Record but original wheel -rim is Ambrosio Metamorphosis "Colnago Corse"- has a Record hub old style) so it seems I can keep it era correct by putting a Superrecord on it (so I won't no longer be tempted to spend too much money on a Corsa Record first gen).

The one up there ^ has doesn't have Colnago written on the seat stays, so that'll mean it's 89 onwards?
89 Master Piu

internal tt cable guides /\, that came on early 90's masters and the 89 masters had the curved forks, precisca's were post 93, my early buckler has the old ones

I've marked that photo wrongly at some point. When did they change from having Colnago written on the seat stays, to having a clover?

Sure straight forks are post 93? I have 2 Masters (I was told they're from 1991, maybe 1992) that have straight forks.
-
• #1221
as far as i know, the first preciscas straight forks were circa 93, the buckler i have came off an ex team wrench, so is og, the second set of presciscas came on the 96 onwards masters

could be 91 as there are straight forks in the Buckler team pics
buckler used esa's as team bikes (one i had)
the internal tt guide has a 'cowling ' on , unsual for an esa -

Straight bladed forks were definitely pre-93. I recall Eddy Merckx claiming they caused riders to crash before the 1992 Tour.
