  • I'm prepared to sponsor you with this;

  • If you paid the time off work it would take to finish it on that you're on.

  • You should be a prime candidate for sponsorship surely?

  • You don't get what you don't steal ask for.

  • A seat clamp tightened by a screw?

  • Bought the blu-ray... now just need to get a blu-ray player...

  • Another argument for a waterproof bivvy. I bought the Rab Alpine for the spine race and will use in on the Trans Am also, not cheap but totally waterproof, breathable and packs small

  • Shit like that ^ is what makes TransAm so appealing.

Since seeing Inspired to Ride, I am now pretty much committed to an attempt at TransAm, so it fulfilled it's title promise as a film!

It won't be 2016, more 2017 or 18. Running a business means that some careful discussions with business partners needs to be had over the next year to arrange a sabbatical. Mrs. JB is behind the concept.

Whilst I have done some fairly long rides, it's now a question of finding out whether I can keep on going. I'm unlikely to be at the sharp end of things, but would certainly aim for sub 25 days I think.

I plan to go for a test ride next year - about a third of a TransAm to see how I fare.

Anyway, I will be following this and and the TransCon with far more attention this coming year. Bon courage to all who step forwards to give it a go!

  • Sounds like a nice plan.

I'm trying to get 'must win' out of my head so that if I do line up for TransAm or similar it's with a sense that's it's an adventure and my world won't crumble if I fail to smash everyone into the dust.

  • Just do your best. Can't be a failure then. And whatever your best ends up being is well, the best you could do.

  • Yeah, but I don't view it that way. It's a curse of being an Aussie male. Compete to win or sit on the sofa drinking VB, them's ya choices..

  • Wait.. you're an Aussie?

  • I get where your coming from.

  • Did you miss the first seven years of the forum?

  • If anyone can understand spanish (or at least a google translator version) this is a nice set of post from last year 2nd http://biziosona.com/tag/transam/ if you want to read it in English google translates it well

  • @hippy

I genuinely think you should be reaching out for sponsorship. You've got some wins, high positions, and great achievements under your belt, your attitude is amazing and you clearly can ride a bike fucking fast for a really, really, really long time, and it's pretty awesome what you've achieved so far with just support from Scherrit and your other half. I think you said it yourself earlier in this thread, if you don't ask, you don't get. I think you should be asking left right and centre!

  • I think you should be asking left right and centre!

Not to mention that left, right, and centre mean a lot of space for advertising in hippy's case.

  • I'm not big on asking for help, I mean, asking for cash money yo or for bigging up stuff I've been paid to use, unless of course it's actually good (Torq springs to mind - I still prefer it now and I'm paying full whack for it).

I don't even really know what I need - I mean, can I get away with a bike I already own? Maybe.

There's also pressure to do well or pressure to at least talk about it a lot. If I have a complete break down I don't want to be thinking about self-censoring, writing something that upsets a sponsor. I like being able to talk shit about anyone or anything.

Then there's the extra work involved in getting sponsors, telling them what you'll offer them and working out what they can do for me vs. "X is the best. Can I afford it? Yes? Add to cart.."

What I need is a manager, someone to take all the organising away from shit like this. :)

  • Biggest arse logo in the business should 'hold some sway' so to speak.

  • I reckon, if you have the money to do things yourself, just spend your own money. Your reasons for not wanting to get sponsorship are VERY vaild. It's easier to just pay your own way.
You properly have a GOOD paying job. So just spend your own money, I would. WAY less hassle.

  • Plus Hippy always tweets a load of shite after he's been down the pub, sure sponsors wouldn't be too keen on that

  • Yeah, but mortgage :)
