What's the internal width of those rims?
Skinny. I'd go for the new Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG for a 35mm deep wheel at that sort of price, never mind the weight (probably +200g vs. the RS81 given that the Fulcrum factory will have Italian scales), feel the width.

R24 http://www.bike24.com/p279864.html for CX racing, 80kg, tends to fall over a bit, - is this the way to go?

is this the way to go?
Even if it turns out not to be, you've only wasted £130 :-)
-

Those look good. I'm guessing they'll be an improvement over Aksium S? Wider and slightly taller. Wanted to save some weight at the same time is the only downside, but seem good for the price.

TesterApproved™
Strictly speaking, the DT R24 is the #tester_approved option, if @ChrisMGS has £350 burning a hole in his pocket he can get the tubeless kit and a pair of Schwalbe One Pro tyres too and still have enough left over to take his SO out to dinner by way of apology for buying yet more bike stuff :-)
-

Not keen on tubeless and sealant business (happy with Open Pave CG and spare tubes), and no SO to take out to dinner, but thanks for the thought. Have language classes to pay for, so wheels will have to wait a bit longer still.

this could well have already been covered and i dont know when this got written, but sounds like Archetype's have deteriorated in quality... anyone got anything else about this?
or a good alternative, looking for a silver rim which could be built up for a lightweight classic-ish bike. really not keen on black rims+silver breaking surface for this..
-
• #5835
Deteriorated how? build a fair number of them and they seemed pretty solid, better than Open Pro that's for sure.
-
• #5836
second paragraph, not sure how, just wondering if this correlated with anyone elses experiences.
-
• #5837
Sounds about right - I've never loved my set. Needed re-tensioning twice and they were built by the same person that has built 3 other wheel sets for me. None of those have needed fixing.
I'm still running them as my wet weather set but they have gone mildly out of true again so... more anecdotal evidence etc.Best rims I've used have been DT and so far the Pave 28's from superstar are excellent.
-
• #5838
That make sense, I did have to retension a few sometime.
The TB14 were a little worse for that.

Looking for a light ish alu wheelset, anyone know anything about these?

That looks like Kinlin XR300 rim.
If you buy a pair of those, novatec SL hubs and get it built with CX rays from a decent wheelbuilder it'll cost you less than that. -
• #5841
can you buy the pave just as rims or is it only direct buy as wheelset?

I think the Pave rim is just a badged-up Kinlin XC-279 anyway, but no doubt someone here can confirm if that's right or not.

I've just built up a set of DT Swiss R460 rims, and after one ride I've decided they're lovely. The braking's not all that good, but they feel fantastic to ride

whats the verdict on A23's? want something silver, wide and relatively light.
-
• #5845
A23 is weak.
Best go for something like the Shimano A319 or those Kinlin.
-
• #5846
looks like the Kinlin come in silver and 490g is pretty spot on. thanks mate
-
• #5847
@JT wide, light, silver, cheap!
Limited drillings thoughhttp://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/arc22-ultrawide-rim.htm
-
• #5849
Low spoke count isn't ideal. It's an issue if a spoke breaks, as this can leave the wheel unrideable. They're usually a bit trickier to bring back into true IME.
-

This is more down to the rims, there are 24h wheels that still managed to stay a little true after a broken spokes.
