  • Lightly OT.

Best shop south London for Motorbike gear? Want to go in a buy from a shop.

See J&S in Stockwell also New Malden? Seem decent.

  • New Triumphs are 1200cc liquid cooled? Oof.

Hope they've kept the weight off, they're already boat anchors.

Great looking designs though - very well considered.

  • I think it's just the Thruxton R that's 1200. The others stick at 8xx. Hopefully this reduces the price of second hand ones a bit.

  • Best troll you can come up with.

  • Using the blandit as an example is quite interesting, yes build to a price but an amazing bike. A bike better than the sum of it's parts.

  • I use Infinity in Clapham. I like the sensible approach from the sales staff and the prices are on-line. Unless you are looking for more Urban Rider style stuff in which case there is Urban Rider on the New Kings Road. They don't keep all their website stock in the shop but they sell Tucano Urbano which is some of the best smart biking gear I've owned.

  • Thanks I'll check them out, infinity. Not interested in urban stuff.

  • I had a training day in Brighton (150 mile round trip) and decided to use the motorbike. I found:
    It's cold.
The sun gets in your eyes.
    My leathers have shrunk.
I have a weak bladder and even weaker lower back.
    Hip cramp makes you cry.
Commuter drivers on the m25 are only half awake.

    Did not enjoy.

  • I was on my way home from Croydon at 5:00pm on Friday. Nearly home when a suicidal ped ran from the pavement at a controlled crossing (green lights in my direction, red man in theirs). We collided hard, I barely saw her before the collision. She ended up on her back passed out, an ambulance arrived and she came round, bruised but walked home. I was not so lucky. I'm typing this from a hospital bed having had a dozen stitches in my nose, lip and chin and a hole in my knee needed a proper operation to clean up.

The police have made it clear that there is no crime to investigate, witnesses corroborated the event. As always you can see why it happens, low visibility, someone does something stupid. If I'd been able to see her running on the pavement I could have avoided it. It's the biggest off I've had in my biking career and the lesson I learnt is simple.

A full face helmet and proper knee pads and I'd be sat at home now enjoying a beer and sleeping in my own bed. So wear your protective gear and stay out of hospital when the shit hits the fan or don't wear it and meet some nice doctors/nurses.

On the plus side I was wearing a Rukka jacket and I don't have a single scratch or bruise on the areas that was covering and the jacket itself looks fine, also a pair of steel toecap boots saved a few toes being sheared off.

  • Get well soon. How is the bike?

  • a pair of steel toecap boots saved a few toes being sheared off.

I was always told not to wear steel toe boots on the bike as they could do more damage in case of an off.

  • I had a similar but less serious collision with a ped who ran across two lanes of stationary traffic to catch a bus whilst I was filtering, it was sub 15mph but I gave her (and myself) a shock. Glad you both will mend, get back on two wheels as soon as poss.

  • Thanks guys, I'll be back on the bike asap. I think the bike's come off fairly well but I only had a limited chance to check it out in the dark and with quite a bit of police activity, questions to be answered etc.

@ M_V, I guess they mean that the toe cap can crush and trap the toes? I wouldn't normally wear steel toe cap and it's hard to single out what they contribute but the damage to them definitely looks enough to have damaged some toes.

  • get well soon Airhead, what a shitty thing to happen, dumb f-ing peds.....

  • Thanks EB, this was certainly one of many of the dumb things a pedestrian could do. I'm sure we've all crossed on the red man before but this time she seriously misjudged it. I've probably had a few near misses over the years with peds.

  • Had the same thing happen a few times on bicycle.

I successfully claimed agains't one person for damage to myself and my bicycle. So this could be an option if you wish to. I had CCTV of incident and they gave up home ins. details.

  • Sorry to hear, hope you heal quickly.

  • Shit. Curse my inertia.

  • PMed!

Hope you and the bike are on the mend soon @Airhead

  • Thanks everyone, back at home and busy sorting out the aftermath.

My insurers are braced for a claim against me! Although I feel reassured that the witness statements and doubtless cctv would back up my statement, as that's what I've been told by the investigating officer. I'm holding fire on any further action.

If she were to start a claim I would have no choice but counter. It's not that I don't feel confident that she's to blame, just that my health is the priority and I'm not going to stress about the rest of it at the moment. The bike damages wouldn't be worth screwing my insurance over so I'm not going to claim for that, I will see how the rest pans out.

  • Ouch mate. Sorry to hear that. Hope bike is Ok.

  • Pic of awesome time. The legendary JMB on the Honda RS750 flat tracker playing around on the El Mirage dry lake bed. I'm going to head out there friday evening and see how many times I can fall of my CR250 whilst turning left. Never ridden on the salt before. (Mrs Jung dinged up a hire car on it with me Frank and Cake in it but that's a different story.)

  • Should have done the speedway day ;)

  • Yeah boiiiii! Passed CBT. Any of you wise people have any recommendation for a first bike. All I seek from it is to improve my skill and learn more about being on the road.
