  • Nice, always wanted a pair of those Bombers but were beyond my means back in the day... what Kona did you buy?

  • posts 29er pic out of spite for lack of merge function

  • A 95 Explosif - I've got some surly troll rigid forks for it on order.
It's going to be a commuter / camper type set up..

  • Sounds good, pics?

  • I broke the frame of my 26'' gary fisher big sur a year ago. Really miss having an offroad bike, thinking about buying a 26'' Inbred, what do you guys think? Any other cheap steel options?

  • Frame hasn't arrived yet but this rocked up today.

Will put this one on the Marin and the gold one on the Kona.

    Soul
    Slackline

  • Loads of cheapo 26" frames on eBay or retrobike - depends also if you want discs or v brakes.
26 " non disc wheels are going for peanuts at the moment.

  • One of these but bigger

  • my inbred

old, but very little used manitou sherman firefly

Renthal Fatbar 30/780 and some PRO 50mm stem. I wish i could find raceface diabolus d2 riser stem or something similar. It would be nice to get bars a bit higer

hope hubs stans rims,i also have arch ex for front too. Should mount it soon. Or try to change it to flow ex or something same kind wider rim.
Still having innertubes. waiting for to get money for new set of tires. Its getting really wet here and Im totally having hard times with those worn out Xkings

  • Another thread I can post pics of my 1x1 in, woo!

  • ^^ nice build

    ^ looks fun

Ditto posted pics elsewhere but fits this thread, my Inbred:

  • Both sweet- what forks are on the surly?

  • Kona Project 2.

They're probably a stop gap until either I or someone with a hotter brazing torch attach a disc tab to the original ones.

  • .

  • Ooh nice - made just down the road from me ...
I always wanted a Curtis BMX in 85 but couldn't afford one

Where are you seeing these nut-priced 26" wheels?

  • Retrobike / eBay

Got the crossmax's for £60 posted and another pair of mavic bronze rims on parallax hubs including cassette skewers for £60. Bike jumbles are a good source too - saw a pair of mavic sunset wheels go for £20 the other week in Bristol.

  • Early to mid 90s Lava Dome. New stem, bars, pedals, saddle and wheels since this photo.

    Mudguard removed too.

Also got an MS Racing (frameset only), GT Avalanche (not a nice thing but needed something with discs, soon to be broken up - although its served me well), Heavy BSO steel thing for locking at the station (my worst but also favourite bike), few cheap old frames that are to be disposed of or given to ppl soon.

26 ain't dead. Its just having a long rest, gathering cobwebs in my shed.

  • Nice bike. How does it handle with "square shouldered" front tyre?

I don't get on with City Slickers front & rear, felt all wrong somehow so always put a rounder profiled tyre up front.

  • Are you running any sort of chain guide or keeper?

  • Lovin' the Kona love.

My 1996 Kona Cinder Cone and 1993 KHS Montana Pro:

  • Cheers- seems to be fine for a road/gravel commute but then again I'm not leaning it into corners or chucking it about too much.
