  • Watched Jodorowsky's Dune last night. It's a documentary that details Alejandro Jodorowsky's failed attempt to adapt Frank Herbert's Dune for the big screen.
He had Moebius, HR Giger & Chris Foss for storyboard & develpment, Dan O'Brannon of John Carpenter's Dark Star for the special effects, and would have starred Salvador Dali, Mick Jagger, David Carradine, and Jodorowsky's son as Paul Atreides (who was trained for two years in martial arts in preperation for the role, six hours a day, six days a week; at his father's behest); it would have perhaps been the most expensive movie at that time, certainly the most ambitious.
It probably would have been a gigantic mess and failure if it had been made, but who knows?
The docu makes the argument that even though it never made it to production the legendary storyboard book that Moebius drew did the rounds in Hollywood and influenced many other famous films.

  • I watched that documentary and really wanted Jodorowsky had succeeded. The Dune film we got was poop.

It was interesting the way gigers work on Dune influenced Alien.
