This does actually do the job of slowing cars down.
Usually, however, they are alongside me when they hit it, in some bone-headed must-get-in-front overtake before the junction. They then end up stuck alongside me as they reach the mouth of the junction, and some of the drivers are then thick/entitled enough to then left hook me.Very well observed this!
Maybe throw some road width restrictions in to make the left turn hook easier?

Not sure what difference having more / less light would make - it's not as if you can't hit the tables at 30mph in all conditions and need to worry about coming off - unless you grab the brake or something. But that assumes riders have some skills, and many of those I've witnessed in RP are very much in a deficit, so I kinda see where you are coming from.
