Gains now spreading into "minor psychological boost but ultimately pointless" territory.

Sold carbon frame, now trying to get marginal gain.

Speaking of that carbon frame...
It's heavier than mine :)

Do fibre lyte make sprockets?
"Fibre-lyte chainrings have been manufactured as small as 12 teeth"
Can't see any reason why they couldn't make 6-bolt IS sprockets in hill climb sizes

Really happy with 79th in the national hillclimb. Bike dun good, it certainly wasn't equipment holding me back. Another crack next year, with a rider under 70kg...

What chainring did you use? Record c/set looking likely so on the hunt for a 39t in 135 bcd flavour- gebhardt?
-
• #361
A 39t inner ring from a double will be fine: gurning up a hill for two minutes, doesn't give much opportunity for your chain to unship.

• #362
I used a Campag one that came with my Centaur chainset ages ago. I'd go Stronglight for cheap, that's what my 44t is

I think I've still got one laying around, prob. Mirage. The stock Campag inners are fine, they have full height teeth all around.

• #364
I have one of those too (from you), but aren't they steel?
Unless they're a mega bargain then I'd probably avoid Campag for single ring use, bolts need spacing out which is a pain, better off with Sram Red.

£110 on merlin...
-
• #366
Yeah, good price I suppose. You'll need 10mm ID spacers if you want to run them with a single ring.
-
• #368
Pretty sure I just turned the ring around: with the recess in the ring hidden, the standard bolts work.
-
• #369
You might need one or more of the shims which come as part of the hidden 5th bolt package, depending on exactly how thick the chainring is, and you need a conventional chainring bolt to replace the long stepped 5th bolt, but you don't need any thick spacers unless you're using the single ring in the inner position and need to take up the slack where the outer ring used to be.

• #370
Yup still needed a shim at 5, but I was using the OE Campag fixings throughout (outer position).

£300 to save 200g of rotational weight y/n?
N.B. currently 6kg heavier than I was at the national last year.

£1.50/g is past the low hanging fruit, but not by much.
lol - cause that saddle has plenty of structural integrity...
