Don't submerge it in water, install with grease.
Mine uses wheelsMFG adapters so it has a little bit of shielding for the occasional downpour, but I live in a place where it only rains 2 months a year.
Maintenance:
- Remove crank
- Remove adapters/covers
- Use a pick to carefully remove shield
4a. If grease is in good condition from when you last checked(clean, looks like new etc), just repack with the same grease.
4b. If there is crud in and around the hole (no euph), flush out with degreaser, cotton bud, let dry. Repack with grease. - Replace shield, cover/adapter, crank.
I haven't had to replace my bearings yet, I use the sram red ones, only because that's what I was given free with the frame.
