  • Calling all film users in London, where would be the best place to get a Konica Hexar serviced/had a look at kinda thing? I have just been made aware by the person I sold the camera to that the shutter blades are stuck, they wont close fully when aperture is changed on the settings. @chrisbmx116 etc. Is this something you heard or know of as a common problem for hexars?? Internet search is only finding sticky button problems

  • Hmmm. Has the buyer actually used the camera or is he just looking through the lens while playing with it? I go mine services at ffordes in Scotland, anywhere in London will charge you literally twice the price to do half as much work.

  • ..looking good!
    Curious to see more.

Wish I had access to a Flextight; that's really another level in scanning negatives...

  • Probably a bit of a long shot, but try Aperture in Rathbone place. They're mostly a Leica/Nikon house, but should know a little about the Hexar.

    Hope this helps.

  • @chrisbmx116 - we both had a go, the last time I used it I dont remember having any issues but who knows, it might have just got stuck with the cold weather and not using it for a month or two? It makes a jammed noise and the aperture wont close past maybe half a stop down which is wierd. It doesnt move when set on all manual either :-

@Franz Beckenbauer - Thanks! Gonna up a couple more in a bit ;-)

@juiceb0x - Thank you, have sent them an email about a quote.

Anyone used this place http://www.camerarepairworkshop.co.uk/ ?
They just gave me a quote for 45+post which sounds to good to be true maybe?

  • A question to the people using a 35mm scanner - given it takes a while to scan a single frame, how do you proof your negs prior to scanning? Do you use a loupe and a lightbox, or ask the developer to do a contact sheet?

I'm debating whether to buy a scanner (and a printer, FWIW) and I like the 35mm ones for compactness and resolution, but I don't want to spend hours and hours scanning... So trying to figure out a workflow.

  • A few i got dev & scanned today from Eyeculture B. Green

  • I scan with a Konica Minolta elite 5400 and vuescan. I do decide after prescans if i'm going to do a full scan. Scanning negatives is really a tedious task and for me it takes a lot of the fun out of photographing with film. Often i wonder why i still shoot 35mm film and not just buy a sony a7 or a 6x7 medium format camera.

  • I use a loupe / light table when picking up slide film from the lab. Love it.

At home I do preview scans that take a couple seconds; these are good enough to decide whether to scan it high-res / multi-pass, or a bit quicker, or not at all.

Like @Föhn said it takes out the fun a bit for me as it's tedious sometimes,
but on the other hand you do get a really great high-res file of your photo for really cheap (assuming you have a scanner - and are then just paying for film developement).

  • When I have enough rolls backlogged, I go rent a colour darkroom slot for a few hours, then make contact sheets of everything as fast as possible. Then after a while I pick my favourites and scan or print them properly.

  • in theory I do the same as platypus but in reality I haven't booked the darkroom for a couple of years and have stacks of unseen negs :(

@platypus - where do you do colour darkroom stuff? Photofusion is the only one I know.

  • Rapid Eye! The best (slightly better than Four Corners). Go and see Lee and he'll sort you out with something sharpish

  • Hi,
I have picked up my Pentax Super A and started shooting again. I haven't had film developed in London yet, so I am looking for some advice. Yesterday I went to Calumet near Euston, to buy some new rolls of Ektar 100 and get my old rolls developed. They don't develop and suggested I went to Silverprint instead. Silverprint doesn't develop either and I am now without a lead.
Who can you suggest for 35mm color film? I'd like it to be either close to N22 where I live or Euston where I work.

I have been looking into C41 process for a year now, and I have a lot of equipment back in Denmark already, I might bring back with me after xmas. If getting stuff developed seems like a hassle I might just buy a developing kit and do it my self (I have a bath tub yay).
If I decide getting the equipment my self I also need a scanner for 35mm (probably medium format in the future as I want a Mamiya 7 one day)... Which one can you recommend? My after-process would be done in Lightroom.

And some old TLR photos for you:

    And some 35mm Pentax ME:

  • ta, good to know!

  • Nice shots! If you want pro level service then there's Aperture on Rathbone Place, cheaper and not much different in quality is West End Cameras on Tottenham Court Road.

  • Aperture is perfect. I can make it easy in my lunch break. Thank you!

few photos taken on various 35mm film cameras only

  • ..some nice flicks in there!

  • Posted this in the wanted section too but:

Looking to get my hands on a cheap fixed lens compact film camera for a trip I have coming up. Want to shoot film, dont want to take the Leica. Not too bothered what it is; anyone selling?

  • What ya fancy? I have quite a few. Various prices.

  • Just got 4 rolls back from the developers, felt like Christmas! Here are some from the Canon AF35M.

  • And then some on the MJU II. Unfortunately a lot of the shots I thought would end up good ended up out of focus. Maybe I wasn't giving it enough time to focus? The ones that are in focus though are tack sharp.

  • Like the 1st and 4th one.

Nice colours, what film is this?

  • And then some on the MJU II

Also great colours in these, really enjoy those.
Which unsharp ones you mean? The bike one?
Guess that's camera shake (iirc the mju-II only fires when obtained focus)..
