  • Eroica Chilterni
Couldn't make l'Eroica in Tuscany this year so our cycling group staged our own version around the Chilterns in Herts and Bucks.
Fifty miles (ish) of country lanes, bridleways and trails was a real blast on retro steeds with skinny tyres. Whistling down the Ridgeway Path into Wendover was a real highlight. Not so much 'white' roads though as decidedly 'brown'. Thank the stars it had been dry all week beforehand. With a few pubs thrown in and a small, enthusiastic crew taking part it was one of the best day's riding I'd had for quite a while.
Definitely going to run it again next year - maybe a couple of weeks before the Italian pilgrimage as a sort of reliability ride.

    Here's the route: https://connect.garmin.com/course/10807238

  • brutal day in the saddle on sunday. this old man rolling with two hyperfit nephews. gruelling lanes of north banbury.

they put me to shame by rolling single speed too. while I was on gears.

    lesson learnt.

oh, the stats. 2.4 miles. ave 4.7 mph

  • Tuesday Night Ride Copenhagen looks awesome

  • I've been wrapped up in a garden project recently so haven't been out at the weekend for a while so today it was great to get out and see how far I could ride out-West and back in a day.

    I done this...

Got to Barnes bridge before my leggies started telling me "thats far enough ya ol' fart, you've still got to get back home y'know".

66 miles in total. Lovely conditions today too, lots of peeps out on bikes.

  • First proper group ride ever today. Joined a local club for a hill climb comp. Did not crash riding in a group. Still freaked out by not being able to see potholes when riding behind other people. Good fun apart from that.

  • ^ Imagine that you are partially sighted / blind. Your pilot rider would let you know all there is to know. Similarly in a group, EVERTHING about the road should be shouted/signalled to you. Relax and enjoy! Worth looking up British Cycling's guides to group riding.

  • I'll check them out, thanks. Most things were called out.

  • Much Trollstigen.

  • Oof - stunning! Well jell.

My weekend ride consisted off borrowing a too small bike off a mate, him telling me that the tyres were a bit fooked, and getting 70km in to a 150km before getting 3 punctures in about 20 mins... Effing annoying and neck hurts.

  • Rode out to watch the Hainault 2-up in glorious sunshine. Only spinning using small gears but still ended up with a sore hip.

On the way back I stopped at the very trendy 'Bicicletta' cafe in Saffron Walden. One of the staff came out and gave me a lock to use (nice touch). Coffee & cake (gluten free orange polenta) very nice & not over-priced either. It's a bit close to home for me, but I'm sure that I'll be back.

45ish miles total with a couple of stops to cheer club mates on (as well as the cafe). I think we got the 1st ladies team as well. Go Eagle!

  • This time I managed to ace my warm-up prior to the criterium in Stockholm 10 days ago, got the holeshot, stringing the field out and possibly had a succesful tapering doing wheelsuck on lap 2 in the front group - but then the race was cancelled because of a horrible crash back in the bunch (the rider is gonna be ok).

  • Two shit training rides out west. London drivers suck arse. Thinking of moving to the country where their sense of self-importance might remain but there's simply less of the cunts to deal with. #cunts #everywhere

  • Brentwood. Crossrail soon.

  • drivers in brentwood are among the worst ive seen.. at least after 5 miles you are in the countryside though.

maybe a new metric required so we can work out best places to live? cunts per hour?

  • @hippy moving to the country . Gonna eat a lot of peaches.
Great to read some great looking rides on here as always.
    Keep it up chaps

  • Brentwood
