I've got spacers on my single-ringed conversion, as it's such a PITA trying to find nice single-ring bolts

Should I just file the female bolts then?

female bolts
Or "nuts", as they are sometimes known :-)
No, if you have to ask then you'll make a mess. Either spacers or some short nuts, the #tester_approved option would be Stronglight stainless steel if you go that route.

I cracked a load of Stronglight SS SS bolts

Do you know where the calibration certificate for the torque wrench you used is? Check the date of calibration, those things aren't valid for all time.

Get the Truvativ single ring specific, both-sides-hex steel chainring bolts.

Where? Right product, but getting them was the PITA I referred to.

So....the question is 'would you be happy to file your own nuts?', the alternative being to spend money on PITA to obtain alternatives. If it helps, I have filed down quite a few VERY CAREFULLY, and am still alive, or at least an approximation of life.

'would you be happy to file your own nuts?'
insert 'do not want' meme

^Entirely intentional, Youtube video or it didn't happen......
-
• #71389
If you cracked the SS bolts there is no hope! They're a lot tougher than any of the alu bolts I've used/destroyed.
That said... the kcnc ones aren't bad.

Thinking about it they might not be stainless, as I distinctly remember them rusting...
-
• #71391
I've accidentally bought plated steel stronglights before :-(
-
• #71393
going to ask SBC cycles to file them

going to ask SBC cycles to file them
There's no way that's economic, the labour charge to file one nut is more than the cost of a full set of Stronglights.

where can I buy today tho? (London) Might call condor and ask.
I HAVE to finish the build on this bike this weekend. -
• #71396
Ok Condor has Sugino 5.5mm bolts in silver for £7.99 now will they work? Gotta find how high are rotor's bolts

• #71398
Take one of the original nuts with you and check the difference! Alternatively, simply take original nuts between finger and thumb and scrape them to and fro on a flat file until the buggers fit, it really is that easy and takes minutes.....

did that and now sorted .. sugino steel for £7.99

I'm looking for a holiday destination for Novemberish and struggling. Any suggestions?
Wish list (in no particular order):
- sub 3hr flight
- inexpensive
- suitable for veggies (ie Italy is good, Spain / Portugal aren't)
- ok weather - i.e. walm or clear blue skies rather than torrential rain
- City or city and outdoors or beach (i.e. no 100% outdoors)
...and not the following countries / cities:
- Venice
- Portugal (an excellent destination I recommend to everyone)
- Spain
- France
- Copenhagen
- Berlin
- Munich
I'd really like to go to one of the scandi countries but is it possible to do any of them cheaply as a grown up couple? Northern Lights would be amazing, but I guess that means Norway and beaucoup bucks?
Cheers.
- sub 3hr flight
Fibrelyte do shims to solve this, apparently the Rotor rings are abnormally thick and their bolts are sized to suit. Some aluminium spacers (probably the 0.6mm ones) would do just as well.
