I have thought that as the 45mm PDW 'fenders' are wider perhaps combined with a soft washer or two they would be less likely to break as there would be more material. If I could fit them in.

When you're installing the fender try and even out the clearances before you tighten everything up; don't use the stay bolts/nuts to crank things into line.
Leather or rubber washer between metal washer and fender is the go-to.
Above and below not really necessary, but some go that far - maybe you should. -

Thanks. I might try that. If I do I think I probably should :)

I drilled a hole in mine and it's been fine. What do PDW have to say on the matter?

Don't take Park Tool torque wrenches in your hand luggage.

Sorry for the late reply, was a bit AFK. Thank you for the advice.

Anyone had any experience with Zefal Shield R30's? Seem a bit tougher than Roadracers and a bit less clunky than SKS...

Suggestion is getting the Velo Orange mudguard and fit massive mudflap.

16mm seems about right. My Wife's bike has 16mm on the rear. Its an Identity Persona frame (steel). I'd imagine something lightweigth and of a 1" threaded vintage would be slimmer.
Can't you measure it?

Anyone know of somewhere (online) with SKS Longs in stock please?

Think new stock is due in the country in about a week from what I've heard...

Stuck a set of those crud mk2s on my bike over the weekend (just in time for the rain, yes!) and they were pretty straightforward to install, seem to be quite effective, although only been cycling out in the rain twice so far... Sure this is an irrelevant review as everyone uses them :-)

I too have just put some PDWs on my Pearson Douche.
The gaps weren't that attractive so I drilled a hole in the rear one to connect it to the chainstay bridge.
They now look good but I'm running fixed so the rear brake connector looks pretty ugly.
Does anyone know if the SKS rear brake bridge works?
(I have the 30mm PDWs and SKS do a 35mm connector)
Also the PDWs have those tiny grub screws to connect the arms.
I know I'm gonna lose one soon - any idea where I could get some replacements? -

Model shops are usually a good shout for grub screws and other small fixings

Does anyone have a busted pair of Crud Catchers? Specifically, I'm looking for the frame-end of the rear mudguard; the bit that goes between the BB and the rear brake bridge.
Can collect it from where ever / pay postage / pay for it or provide beers or whatever. Would be a great help.

FWIW Crud will sell you each piece directly if needed.

I want to fit some mudguards to my CAADX when I use it as my winter bike with 25mm or 28mm road tyres (currently has cx tyres on for offroad use). There are mudguard eyelets but obviosuly there are huge tyre clearances so there will be big gaps between the guard and the tyre. Is there something I can fit to the brake bridge and fork crown hole to lower the mudguards?

Planet X have the Gilles Berthoud back on for £20. Not the 60mm longs annoyingly, which is what I need

Destroyed a front SKS Raceblade XL last year, so I've bought a new set.
Was tired last night and wasn't paying attention and have fit the rear guard to the front wheel. Coverage seems pretty decent. Haven't ridden it yet but is there any reason not to keep this setup?
This set has also come with screws to fix the guards in place once you get the fit right which I'm fairly sure my previous set didn't have.

Just did a dry install of SKS chromoplastics to determine how much I need to cut the stays on my All City Macho Man .. due to 'hidden fender mounts' being in a different position than the usual the stays wont come in contact with the bolt. Am I right in thinking that they will need to be bent and cut accordingly?
EDIT: I have no idea how is this achieved without bending stays .. http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv62/jinjrich/All%20City%20Nature%20Boy/P1000053.jpg~original Just cutting the right length?

Bending the stays is pretty easy, see the front guard on my Straggler:
I have thought this myself, it's not like I was jumping off curbs or anything. This one broke on the A44 just outside Wyre Piddle, it's a perfectly smooth piece of road.
I'm not sure I even used a washer so that's a good point. Soft would be not metal?
It's hard to say if the 'fender' was stressed but the A44 is a bit of a shit road, so maybe. I definitely was when it broke as the rear section went up inside the front section and jammed the wheel while I was being overtaken by a massive HGV...
