  • That's a pretty demanding spec, looks like you'll have to treat yourself to a Stooge then!

In related news, looks like Marin is doing a similar machine, and dare I say better value than the equivalent Charge?

I am still loving my Krampus. Yesterday I decided to give up all pretensions of bikepacking on it - it's too good a trail bike to ruin with silly handlebars and spacer stacks under the stem... my Inbred is set up for & better suited to that sort of riding*. So the Krampus is becoming my singlespeed trail ripper, and the Inbred is getting gears again.

  • Was in same boat here, till I went to Aston Hill with one. Fucking revelation. X-Fusion do a pretty decent 27.2 one coming soon-ish accoring to their sales rep.

  • T Mars post £50

  • ^ This.

Got a 31.8 one on my Lurcher in London that's awesome, fitting a 27.2 one to my Vitus Dee in Ireland when I get there in two weeks, which I expect to be just as good.

  • sorry i could not link it, but the t-mars is available from ebay and gets good reviews, if only it was available in 26.8

  • Been out in the dales today on my unfashionable tiny wheeled over geared bike. Such good fun. Some pretty big climbs where I was definitely making the most of the granny ring, may be tempted down the line to switch to 1x if I ran 34/42 or something massive. Also, definite convert to frame bag over carrying a camelbak/backpack, I much prefer not carrying something on my back.

And need to put some money aside for some Shimano brakes, the hopes just aren't performing as well as they should and the shimanos seem super powerful. Anyone seen any good deals on a pair?

  • They're always cheap on CR and rose, deore are dirt cheap or SLX not much more, I'd well recommend zee though, so much power!

  • Have ridden SLX and they are plenty powerful for me, comparing the sbs with deore today they looked identical as well . I was hoping dirt cheap would be about £25-30 an end....

  • Two days at Afan. Corsair still knackered. Tempted to get a new frame (and fork) as it's going to be a fair few quid to sort a new linkage.

Is anyone making 120-140 rear travel 26ers any more?

  • How many days?

  • Most of the shimano brakes are the same basic thing, as you go up the range you get lighter bits, ceramic pistons and easier adjustment but power is essentially the same from deore to xt and zee to saint.

  • So many days.

  • So many days.

  • How many?

  • All of the days.

  • Deore's all the way if you don't care about tool less adjustment and branding. Aside from slightly better modulation, I really don't notice the difference between them and my XT's

  • I've got a set of SLXs I can get rid of? Could probably do with a bleed but they're good.

Edit: Just remembered that they are also currently set up Euro style.

  • I have XTs and don't particularly rate them. The lever is really comfortable for 1-finger braking, and XTs have the finned pads so don't overheat, but SLX are just as good lever and power-wise. The XTs also have a some free play in the lever, even after adjusting properly (used to be a bike mechanic so I know what I'm doing here), actually more free play than the low-end M355s on my partner's bike.

The only reason I got them is because the BB7s that came on my Krampus overheated pretty much to the point of absolute failure every single ride (also got a 203mm front rotor which helped), and my old Elixirs wouldn't fit due to hose entry clipping the spokes (I have now fixed that problem by cross-lacing the front wheel, but by that point I had bought the XTs already).

I prefer the Elixir CRs that came secondhand on my old bike, they don't have any noticeable free play in the lever. Also they seem to bite and modulate better than the XTs, some of that might be the RS1 rotors and Brake Authority pads though. Never seemed to overheat either. So I guess you might want to try new rotors and pads before forking out for new brakes?

I can also sell you a set of XTs if you like. Barely used. I'm in NZ so they'll take ages to get to you. Man, I'm a good salesman.

  • Which hope brakes? Look like tech 3 X2?. I have those on my AM bike and they are amazing...to me anyway coming from weenie XC brakes

  • Not wishing to be indelicate, but @TM weighs a little more than you.

  • Anyone seen these? https://instagram.com/p/8TOQVVhJZc/
Might be a pile of poop but couldn't believe the price....
