  • Hmm... I am running out of clothes-hangers.

  • My issue is posting it all from Norway.

  • Tell them it's collection only.

  • Good call.

How do we do small print on the new forum.....

  • Arrived. Cat for scale.

  • So nice....

  • very very nice.

tell me honestly, how stiff are the newest lefties?

  • You and Indra are getting ALL the fancy crabon 29ers!

  • I was surprised to discover both the bars and post were crabon too.

  • Wheels look heavy.....

  • Needs stem slamming and - 17 degree stem

  • You have no idea how difficult and pricey that is with the Lefty OPI setup

  • Lefty OPI

Ooh, I learnt about a new level of stupidity today :-)

What was so broken about the normal AHead stem that Crack-n-fail felt the need to replace it with that abomination?

Dunno, but they've gone back to an a-head 1.5" type set up for 2016.

OPI Stem / Steerer might be related to the two sizes of lefty clamps; with a-head I guess you need two lengths of steerer for different sized headtubes, but with OPI you just take out some spacers and dial the stem down. Maybe.

Whatever, OPI steerer was never loved. Might swap mine out for the new version.

  • OPI steerer was never loved. Might swap mine out for the new version.

Is that as simple as replacing the clamp(s?), independently of the Lefty itself?

  • Well, clamps and steerer.

  • havent really looked in to it tbh - hope it's just the steerer because new clamps means a new upper and a complete rebuild

  • Well yes, you might want to go and ride the thing first :-)

  • SO my on-one is getting a bit of love for the winter as I havent been able to find a frame which excites me quite enough to move away from it (although the ritchey 29ers are doing weird things to me)

    1) i am buying new seals and oil for my forks
    2) true wheels + new rear tyre + sort out the rear brake somehow
    3) i might be getting a thomson dropper for a good price (very undecided on this still)
    4) i am getting a new crankset and going 1x10 as my current BB is so fucking knackered people can hear me in the woods

question is, what crankset + cog size? should i be changing my cassette too (probably not but I would if I need to). i really need some help with this so all suggestions welcome.. leaning towards SLX or and XO crankset

old photo but if it helps with suggestions idk

  • I'm running 30x11-36 and it's been fine fine for bikepacking in thePeaks, Pennines and Wales. Not bought into all this expander stuff, it's cheaper to get off and push for a few hundred metres.

If I wasn't going back to singlespeed over the winter I'd consider 32 or 34 up front as I'll probably be doing shorter or flatter rides in general without stuff strapped all over the place.

Edit: sort of mis-read the question - Merlin were selling SLX cranksets for £45-50 the other week, assume they'd work with a single ring...

  • thats not a bad shout at all at £47, think I will order just that :-)

  • Good news peoples - the F-si is unashamedly rad

  • Photo evidence of this alleged radness?

  • too busy having lolz I'm afraid

if @swedeee is still interested lefty 2.0 is stiff as fck

  • i'm imagining this does not exists, but does anyone know of a 29/700c rim brake compatible rim that i can run 2.2s tubeless on?
