  • MPG isn't a consideration - I fill the tank on the Volvo maybe once every three months, and that does 14mpg off the motorway.

  • Lynx Eventer/ X-JS shooting brake ;)

Especially if MPG isn't a consideration (14mpg? gosh).

  • Am wary of people who say that.

No mention of what was done, the labout rate..etc

  • er how big (wattage) are the bulbs?

I'd use mains cable as it is cheap/free as I have some around.

I'd go LED battery operated push lights for illumination, and the a few led inspection lamps. CPC has been helpful and cheap.

  • they are are old lucas/hella spotties off 70s british cars.

  • M5 touring? I've often wished my volvo was an estate to justify the impractical length of it. hint hint.

  • @hoops Chasing Classic Cars is so addictive. Hyper-level collectors casually shifting cars around.

David Letterman's blown Volvo, sister of the Newman one, was on Seinfeld's show... epic thing...

  • What ever mains cable you have around will be fine.

Note unless leisure batteries, the batteries won't like the cycle, so bank on using older ones.

  • Keep looking at these again:

  • thought you were set on a 912 ?

  • I suspect it'd be easier/possible to get a bike in the back of a P1800ES, the 912 not so much.

Also, for the money that a good 912 commands I could get a 996.

    I should probably just get a 996.

I just need to solve the bike transport issue.

  • your volvo sounds interesting @Dammit, any photos?

  • Not very many - I'm rubbish at cleaning it tbh.

Nurse holidays are better than mine I think:

    I took this at Combe:

It's a manual 850R (most were auto as it was a non-cost option) from 1996.

The differences between this and the standard T5 were the front bumper with it's pronounced lower lip, a bigger turbo, better flowing manifold, larger injectors, viscous-LSD, and a leather and alcantara interior.

I've had the engine rebuilt, replacing the rods with H-beam units (that won't bend, unlike the originals), the rings were replaced when the engine was apart and the head was given a valve job and ported, and the intake and exhaust manifold where gasket-matched.

The car came with a 16T Mitsu turbo, it's now got a (brand new) 20T, the injectors are VXR units, and the intercooler is significantly larger unit than the original.

The standard exhaust is very restrictive, so that went in the bin and it's got a 3" downpipe into 100 cell race cat, then 2.5 to the rear bumper with two straight-through mufflers.

All the intake pipework has been upgraded, the MAF is now in a custom 90mm housing and the charge pipework is now running reversed, so over the engine to the intercooler, then from the bottom of the intercooler straight into the throttle body (which is larger than standard).

It's probably around 100 to 120 horsepower up on what it was originally meant to have when it left the factory, which means that the 328mm floating discs/four pot AP Racing brakes are a good idea.

I just wish it'd wash and polish itself!

  • If the 996 is as fucking dull as the 986 I would go for the 912.

  • Super rad, thanks for the info/photos !

  • Fif anyone knows of a rotisserie/spit that some is willing to rent/sell, please let me know. I am not doing another day of lying on my back scraping off under seal.

  • I sneaked into BRM's garage when he'd popped out for a crafty fag, here's the new race car:

  • On a different note, P1800ES and Z3M Coupe - apart from those, are there any other "two seater sports estates"?

  • you can fit a bike in these easily:

  • A good friend of mine used to have a Z3M coupe. It was awesome. We had many LOLZ in it. Until he wrapped it round a tree.

(Also, I'm pretty sure it had seats in the back... Not that you could fit much in them)

  • ^^^Body looks like cast concrete?

  • You might find a not totally rusted model of :
Lancia (Beta) HPE, or, Opel Monza, or, Opel Manta?

What you really need is a Renault Avantime,
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Avantime
    (the Coupe Espace,
so hand assembled by mystified Matra Aerospace engineers between
fighter jet contracts for the French Airforce).

  • So, not counting 2+2s?
