808 vs. 800 Snapdragon
Phft, only 8 better in 2 years.
I'll keep my 5 for another year or so then
-
• #16353
But... 808!

So fed up with the LG G3 and the G4 doesn't seem any better.

Where from? Google direct?
-
• #16357
Yep. Play Store
-
• #16358
For some reason the google link i hit didn't have the pricing.
-
• #16359
Shows it the top right hand side on your link for me.
£339 for 16gb
£379 for 32gb

• #16360
Yeah, the link I posted has the pricing. The first link I looked at didn't (I didn't bother posting it).
Comparison with other new devices (boss is looking at Moto X Play):

USB Type-C? Will I need a pile of new chargers for it?
-
• #16362
just cables I think
-
• #16363
Yeah, so home, work, car, etc. PITA.
"5X bigger but 5 sharper"
"The Nexus 5X measures 147 x 72.6mm with a thickness of 7.9mm at its slimmest. The Nexus 5 on the other hand measures 137.8 x 69.2 x 8.59mm so the newer device is larger overall, but a little slimmer." 10mm taller! BOO!

The Type C USB 3 was what made the final choice for me. Fast charging.
-
• #16365
Charger is spec'ed at 3A.
-
• #16366
I bet my car socket doesn't deliver that...
-
• #16367
Just wire straight onto the battery...
-
• #16368
How fast is fast charging? What's the real world diffrance?
-
• #16369
Since I charge mine overnight, for me, fuck all.
-
• #16370
It is non linear, since emptier batteries can charge faster
Zero to fifty percent in twenty minutes or thereabouts.

• #16371
Slightly too expensive to justify updating from the 5. If it was nearer £300 for the 32GB I'd have been tempted. For the moment I'll hold out and see how Marshmallow works on the 5 (lollipop didn't run particularly smoothly).

What's the deal with upgrading Android? The Nexus site says stuff about carriers - I'm on a historical (great) 3 contract with unlimited data? How do they get a say in what OS I use on my phone?
-
• #16374
You would have originally paid less for the phone or got it free with the contract. To allow the provider to be able to justify subsidising much of the cost of the handset, they load it with bloatware that will weld their brand to the handset and either force you to retain the contract or at the very least, have their brand laser etched into your eyeballs every time you look at your phone.

Has anyone got a Moto X play? I'm trying to decide between that and the Nexus 5x.
N5 screen randomly cracked while it was in my Murtz condom while it was still in my pocket...
On the phone to Google now, seeing what they can do about it... The build quality on my replacement is a bit shoddy compared to my OG N5 and the screen has (or rather, had) craploads of screenburn on it when I got it... Refurbished handset shoddiness...
Hopefully they'll replace it again now that the 5x is out, I hear that's what they've been doing in the US...
