  • I have tried today in various places near home, will try again when on way to work tomorrow...

    Cheers

  • You poor thing...

  • Folks at work use iPhones and are with Tesco / giffgaff have 4G... does it mean there is something wrong with mine?

  • Im coming into this a little late but... At work we run Mac minis and have a windows virtual machine running with Microstation CAD software, its fast and has no issues with running photoshop on the Mac at the same time. The VM also makes sharing files a non-problem, as anything saved in either OS is instantly accessible in the other.

Personally I dont get on with windows so I much prefer to do everything in Mac except the CAD which is windows only. That way I just have it set as full screen on a separate desktop for flicking into and out of. Its an efficient way to work.

  • Thanks. Yeah, that's not a bad way of doing it. Just running a separate screen.

Maybe I'll give VM a go and see if it runs okay. My mac should be fast enough really.

  • We still have one of the old style minis (8/9 years old i think) running this set up and it holds its own more or less. It just has the occasional mard when you ask it to do too much.

  • Thanks, so I'll be fine then. Now to get a 2nd monitor! ;)

  • something wrong with mine?

Sorry to say it's not the phoe, it's you.
You know: you do break all the macs..

  • I was acutally thinking about the same thing... I think I have started to break all the PCs as well...

  • This might be a dumb suggestion but you haven't actually mentioned that you've gone into settings > mobile data and turned on "Enable 4G".

    Have you done that?

  • What are the chances that he'll tell us if he hasn't?

*disclaimer: last time I went to the genius bar my issues turned out to be fluff. And the time before that i had accidentally turned "do not disturb" on.

  • Done everyhing I could possibly think of. Finally got through to tech support from O2 and now they are blaming Apple.

Just tried swapping my sim with a friend's who is on Tesco and has 4G signal here:

My sim in her iPhone 5c - no 4G
Her sim in my iPhone - no 4G

    I don't understand...

  • Just stop. Trade it in for a saw and a plane. Take up carpentry.

  • Can you access your local O2 cell tower?

If so try unplugging it then plugging it back in again.

If not, can you access your local electricity substation?

  • I think you need to electro-magnetically isolate yourself from all electronic devices. Try wrapping your hands in inner-tubes and earthing yourself at all times.

  • El Capitan is landing tomorrow. I'm gonna refrain from installing until we're a couple of point-releases in and there is a consensus on performance/stability.

OS X updates = "as long as photoshop works..."

  • I have had no problems, i'm on 10.11 now.

  • I'm going for it straight away. Will report back fps.

  • No carpentary or inner tubes needed... just yet. Finally thanks God they got their act together and found out that I am not on the bleeding iPhone tariff. All will be fine tomorrow... hopefully.

And for the record, I have built a wall with wood last year... so carpentry could be an option.

  • Would be a wise move.

Anyone here split a fusion drive before? So it becomes a 128SSD and a 1tb HDD? Might give it a bash so I can split the SSD and install W10... but will 75GB be enough for OS X and Apps? Anyone running Creative Suite on an Air?

  • Someone posted a guide on the ars technica forums about splitting a fusion drive. It looked pretty simple. I'll try to find it for you.

I'd be much more tempted to open it up and put a bigger SSD in there... Not a big job - just scary.

  • Aye, found and read a guide, it's more the size that worries me as opposed to the process. Just installed OSX and CC from fresh and it's taking up 25 GB. Rushed a boot camp install and its ended up 400gb. Going to see how DayZ runs then make my mind up in splitting. No time, money or nerve to crack it open atm!

  • Ok, so after formatting, the 128gb will be a bit less but you should get at minimum 60gb for each partition (probably more) which will be fine for the OS and essential applications. Then you can just use the 1tb hdd as bulk storage, which I assume is the plan.

  • Yeah. Maybe I will give it a bash over the weekend. Can't work out if I will need a bootable usb or I do it all within recovery boot, won't splitting the Fusion wipe everything? Failing to find a video of the process.
