  • Haha, @spotter would probably agree I have a different dictionary for budget/beater.

Though I think the plan for now to get me back on the track is to get reasonable track bike with decent parts then upgrade to a better frameset later on or as @8bits said a coach.

So we have two options really now:

    • BMC TR02

    or

    • Hoy Fiorenzuola .002

Purely because of the Dura Ace components

  • I'd take the Boardman with Omniums over the Hoy with DA.

  • DA>omnom

  • Techinally, this is probably "cheap" to you.

Good component mean when the nice frame arrived, it's a direct swap.

  • You're right, look great, great value and in his sizes.

Might be too cheap for him to justified tho...

  • CAAD 10 Track?

  • The geo on Hoy is a tad strange though, I'm a XS on their website.

  • The only thing that is decent on that bike for value for money is the crackset, the rest is very debatable.

  • Can you find your dictionary and read the descripton for "cheap" is?

You wanna start training, get a cheap bike and trash it while waiting for your not so cheap bike, it might be months as the 2015 stocks is going down and 2016 is hardly here yet.

  • For some people yes, but the slopping negative tube top isn't really my thing nor the colour scheme =/

  • Vigorelli Caleido:

You get to choose your own components and leave out anything you don't want.

  • If you were going to frame only route , Condor Lavaro for sure... Such class , vaiiii nice ride ...

  • From my experience cheap is cheap for a reason, I do like the idea of getting a bike and just riding it, but from years of experience I usually have to replace it and eventually upgrade the components (for examples, wheels, crankset, chain and bar)

I rather get a decent bike that I know that will last longer than bike that will probably end up costing me buck and trouble. (And this is a personal thing, even though we say we love to get a cheap bike to ride, if it doesn't make you feel special when riding it then what's the point of getting one in the first place)

  • Will I need these when riding it?

Plus isn't there like a really bad rep for buying anything at Velodromeshop?

  • They are really nice to ride, (test ridden one last year and probably a decent upgrade/replacement if I crack my new frameset/bike.

But for now I think I am going to have to get new a complete track bike, as the only thing I have left in the flat is my pro vibe stem and bars.

  • I think the reason I like the Hoy so much is it looks just very understated but purposeful, great spec as well for the price, most of the parts would be worth of a posh frame. Although not ridden one I'm sure it will be decent.

  • Cheap aren't always cheap for a reason, it's a track bike, as long it's build correctly, it should be perfectly functional.

  • Indeed.

I'll pop down to Evans Cycles next week and ask for a test ride for both bikes (Hoy and BMC) to see which I prefer and then see what will happen from there. Thanks for everyone's help peps.

  • You said reasonable track bike with decent part after all.

£400-500 does get you exactly the above.

The Hoy seemed like a direct swap as all the component is bang on tread for an exclusive looking track bike.

  • Ignore them all, Ho. Just get the carbon BMC.

  • Carbon or GTFO.

  • Obviously he needs a custom FES with Mavic iO and rear disc.

  • How is that going to work?
