Is a 25mm tyre on a 21mm (internal width) rim actually a bad idea, or is ETRTO full of shit?
-
• #5628
It'll be fine. People get way too obsessed with these things.

Shimano OEM 18/24 drilled Ultegra 6700 hubs
I am very tempted by this. I don't know why. I don't need a pair of hubs/new road wheels.
I am so close to justifying this by "you need the skewers". -
• #5630
No doubt - I'm below the recommended size too. But it does cross my mind some times. If nothing else I'm more vigilant about tyre pressure with these wheels.

Don't know if you bought rims already, probs.
I've got belgium + and I don't have any issues getting tyres on.
But yeah, they are wide, so tyres will come out 1mm or so wider than usual. -

Thanks for the info.
Wheels are being built this week. Went for Belgium + which will be replacing the standard Belgiums currently laced to the Ceramic R45 hubs (rear rim is dinged, so replacing both). They'll be going on a Ritchey Logic frame, which apparently has clearance for 28's, so should be good. Will report back next week when bike is finished. -

Das ist ja schön.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
-
• #5635
I know ritchey say this but there's bugger all room under the fork crown I'd be surprised if you can fit more than 25s.
-
• #5636
wont be going bigger than 25... but tyres do seem to come out a bit bigger on Belgium+, hence the questions. Veloflex masters always measure up on the smaller side though, so hoping I will get away with it.

I have the option of getting some flo 60s brought over from America by a family member. Is there anything else I should be considering in this price range, without burdening my family.

10spd for lyf

but what rims dan???
-
• #5640
Wide rims usually make the tyre less tall so I'm sure you'll be right.
Veloflex 25s on open pros fit OK anyway. -
• #5641
Ha! This is the nicest tubeless tyre.

dt 460 - whatever the question, that is the answer.

what's the go-to 10sp shimano sub-£200 factory built wheelset these days? fulcrum 5s? anything better worth looking at?

DT Swiss R24. tester approved

nice one. how would they compare to the superstar components' pave 28s? (which I just remembered about)

how would they compare to the superstar components' pave 28s?
Well, in terms of your original query the R24 easily wins by being under £200, which the Pave28s are not once you've paid for skewers :-)
I chose the R24 because I'm fat and I ride my road bike off road. If you're skinny and stay on the pavement, you may find the Pave28's stupidly thin spokes acceptable.

Why are people still buying the heavy pave rims? Arc22/31 rims FTW.
-
• #5649
Full discosure: I have had to get medieval with the spoke key on my pair of Superstar wheels after a dodgy bikepile and some heavy pothole action.

Arc22/31 rims FTW.
Cause they're not exactly stiff?
Ok thanks. Sorry. Wheel choice bewilders me. Choosing every other component is so much easier.
