Air + Air = Cush

Don't know the exact pressure it was at, but didn't feel low. Never knew exactly with the narrower rim either and never had such a problem. Just something for people to be aware of, user error is more likely.

Fair enough, I guess I noticed that because I was running slightly lower pressures than I had with a narrower rim. However, the point about damage to rims stands.
-
• #5580
How are you more likely to hit a rim?
Hitting things banked over?
-
• #5581
Is there less space for the tyre to compress to protect the rim, as it is stretched wider and so not as high? On a narrower rim, the tyre if compressed, is wider than the rim so even if pressure down the rim is not exposed to that nasty curb.

Just seen in the tyre thread about the sidewalls being closer to the road too, maybe that played a part...
-
• #5583
Yes, that was my pet theory too.

If your tyre is compressed enough for the rim the hit then the tyre would be wider than the rim (even if you were using 23mm tyres on a 24mm rim). And they'd be underinflated.

Let all the air out of your tyre. Does the rim sit on the ground?
-
• #5586
No, but only the thinnest part of the tyre stops it, and not by much. Any rolling off centre and it would
-
• #5587
Perhaps. The more-round tyre shape from wider rim should deform less but if it's really under inflated I suppose it's possible.

Bolted (rather than track nuts), low flange, black, 20/24 hole track hubs.
Cheap or spensive, not fussed on brand, must have all those features.
EDIT: I actually asked this question before, but if anyone can do better than these... http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/231522501549?

Dura Ace skewers. What's the question?
If the answer is DuraAce skewers, the question must be "How can I pay four times as much as necessary to get skewers as good as Ultegra?"
-
• #5599
I have both, the 9,000 series skewers are a more fun design than the 6800.
