  • And aesthetics, I think cantis look better than v brakes. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does. And using the Avid cantis that are on the bike now, which aren't the best, a decent set of pads and stopping power is plenty enough for me.

  • You Londoners are so shallow.

    ;-)

  • I'm not a Londoner. I'm from the Peoples Republic of the North West. And yes, I'm a bit shallow.

  • @jontea did you ever attempt to fit the nitto rack to the carbon forks of the cdf?

  • I did, and it fits. Had to flatten the fork crown bracket, otherwise it was 10mm too high.

  • cheers, this is looking like an expensive idea.

  • It's a bike, of course it's gonna be expensive, that's why we go to work though.

  • I know but the idea of a cheap bar bag (something like has an alpkit dry bag) has now evolved into a nitto rack and bigxtop rando bag.

  • Worth it though, Jordans bags are excellent, nittos look so good. When, and the wait will be a long one, I go custom bike, both those items will be back in my life.

  • Oh god! I'm in love, and its aluminium with a carbon fork, and miles away from my usual understated colour schemes. I think I may want a 2016 Giant TCX SLR 1, £1250, 0% finance, and it's just so beautifully ugly.

  • Current set up, have flipped the stem, fitted Spesh Roubaix Pro 32/30mm tyres, and eventually fitted the Koolstop pads, oh, and changed the seatpost for one with slightly less setback. If I decide to go for the Giant this will be for sale, everything except the bars, saddle, tyres, cages and pedals.

  • So went to have a look at the Giant today, think I need a medium, not available til December unfortunately, but while in the shop spotted one of these. Sram Rival one, Trp spyre, 15mm thru axle front, 12x142 rear, novatec hubs n rims, 40mm tyre clearance and rack n guard ready.Thoughtd?.

  • I'm confused, what are you actually trying to buy?!

  • No idea. Just seem to be a raft of appealing bikes out at the mo, to me anyway. Wouldn't mind a change to ali n carbon. Probably won't end up doing anything, which let's be honest, is probably best (for my pocket and my marriage).

  • Ah! I see... :)

  • My advice would be to wait.

We're getting a staggering amount of big tyres disc road bike at the moment, like the Genesis Datum for instance.

I would says the best thing to do is wait, save up and go full hydraulic.

  • Probably right. Just in a bit of a lull bike wise. Probably just gonna bang a Kinesis carbon fork on the Day one, should lighten it slightly. Maybe I'm just havin a bit of a mid life!

  • Interesting thread as I have a day-one too.. nice to see some gears on it.. where did you get the cable hangers for your brakes? Also what type are your guards? I need to make mine winter spec some enough!!

  • Check the fork length, I don't think they're a standard CX length (least the old stuff that is).

  • Why did you get rid of the CdF so quickly?

  • Financial woes. Was trying to sell the Day One, but no takers, so had to lose the Croix unfortunately, but to be honest, I don't miss it all that much, well maybe a bit.

  • The hangers are off my wifes Super Galaxy, aswell as the cantis, the straddle cable hangers are from lbs. The guards are Sks chromoplastic p45, will cover upto about a 35mm tyre.

  • Already done the sums Ed, makes head angle marginally more relaxed, nothing to throw the geo way out.

  • Did a 100 miles with the eldest yesterday. He did well for a first distance ride.

  • Bikes at the ready yesterday mornin.
