In Se1 I've found Antico at the bottom of Bermondsey Street, is the pick of the street in my opinion. Casse-Croute runs it close mind.
The Rose on Snowsfields is great for roasts etc and if you want to go properly bonkers go to Story.

This is quite late but Camberwell has some gems:
£ FM Mangal, Silk Rd, Theo's
££ The Camberwell Arms, The Crooked Well, Angels & Gypsies -
Green Pea in Greenwich / Maze Hill. Looks a bit shabby from the outside but the owner is a lovely bloke, food is plentiful, very good and cheap.
Also, he's my neighbour. But others agree with me
