But will the London<>Norwich disparity still be there when we want to retire? Or will we all be teleconferencing from home, and therefore London house prices will plummet to match those around the country? At the moment my tiny zone 3 flat would (if I owned it all) be exchangeable for a nice house in Norwich, but will that still be true in 2040?

Yeah course it will. London will price everyone out soon, Norwich doesn't even have a dual carriage way to it yet. 2 bed in Zone 2, I'm buying half the bloody city when I get back! Toot toot, only 15 years until its feet up with some vino and bon fromage.

They dualled the A11...
It just didn't magically turn Norwich into a global-superpower like all the local politicians had always maintained it would.
Your plan's good, but my pension won't support me from 50 onwards, even without a mortgage. I'll probably need to wait for 75...

Hold on, pension? U WOT M9!!?111?11!!?1?!?11
Knew I forgot something. -

All my eggs are in that basket.

Norwich doesn't even have a dual carriage way to it yet.

And you can get more for £250k in Norwich
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-35439141.html?premiumA=true
you could convert the loft there but it's Thorpe St Andrew, acres of bungalows where retired people live, the suburbs, living there would be like being half dead and half alive, like listening to Enya.

So that place doesn't cover N8, any more suggestions for roofers in North London? Cheers

Concrete shed base laid today. Pressure treated timber bearers will be going onto the concrete then pressure treated floor on top of those (floor joists at right angles to the bearers).

You using plastic joists? Heard good things about them...
-
• #10688
No, pressure treated wood. Using bearers at right angles to the floor joists minimises the contact area for damp from below. Also allows air to circulate underneath.

Ah, gotcha. Looks good!

Forget the 'burbs. If I move back to Norwich I want to be bang in the city centre. Staggering distance from the theatre, gigs and decent boozers/restaurants.

• #10691
What's the best city-centre-ish property in Norwich you can see for £200k. Just asking, for a friend...

• #10692
Although only a one bed flat, i really like this: https://www.onthemarket.com/details/1282284/

Interesting.

At nearly 600sqft as well, it's pretty spacious...
Great location.

• #10695
But it's in Norwich.

Everything is relative...

I've got pressure treated 4x4s as suggested. But the ground underneath was so uneven I had to put the flagstones on top of a load of sand to get them close to level, which is actually what the shed instructions said to do. If the sand washes away, will my shed collapse?
If I remember rightly, it wasn't the wise man who built his house upon the sand.

• #10698
Probably not unless you're on a decent slope

But what if the rain comes down and the floods go up?

Climb aboard the SS Shed and float to safety
I know. I actually think it might be a pals old house... his mum refused to buy it via the council and was re homed for it to sell to someone else.
Don't think there are many prostitutes round there anymore either.
Defo moving back to Norwich one day... retire at 50!
