  • What's the point in those super-expensive tourers over something like an early 90's steel 531ST Dawes Super Galaxy? Has all the mounting points, fits wide tyres etc.

    Starts at $4000 (frame only?):

£300, complete 531ST bike with Deore DX groupset:

  • If it's what the owner wanted and they enjoy riding it, does it need justification?

  • Picked up Sidi Wires for cheap, but thanks ;)

andy_k - I guess not. Just seems extremely expensive for what it is. I wonder how much they're used or if they're just photographed and then sat in a garage somewhere, after the Radavist-eque photo shoot / maiden journey. The Map is like a Hummer H2 and the Dawes like an old Defender. I guess for your $4000 you do get 3 sets of bottle cage mounts.

  • I guess what I'm curious about is what the builder claims they can offer for that sort of money asides from their brand name...?

  • you could do a lot of upgrades to a Elephant NFE for the difference betweek $4K and $1.7K

  • No matter how much wow omg customz Map have installed in their frames, they can't be substantially better than an equally custom, handbuilt fillet brazed frame which can be scored for substantially less elsewhere (leaving plenty of change for nice handbuilt wheels etc).

Pryor says: "the bikes I build reflect the growing urge to make cycling a part of everyday life". $4000, plus components, isn't exactly "everyday" and I get the feeling someone is taking the piss somewhere.

  • Yeah. I don't quite get it. Richard Sachs. $5000.

  • Why is everyone worrying about his business plan?

Perhaps he sells to silicon valley tycoons or adds value by making them a cuppa and listening to their problems (whilst selling them a rad bike you can't buy in walmart)?

  • Yeah. I don't quite get it. Richard Sachs. $5000. But he has 40 years of heritage behind him.

  • Big difference between those two, can't go into it as I'm still working, give me. Couple hours.

  • Maybe $4,000 is to the owners what £300 is to you?

Let's not kid ourselves that Sachs frames are good value either. You buy them because of this is how you picture them being built:

and since Jobs left you've had a whole in your heart for products made by men in rollnecks.

  • I'll pretend this is related to the discussion, my muricanized/janheineized mongrel :D

More than £300 equivalent, mind. And I won't claim it's pretty.

  • Now that's a functional bike, not porn, not anti.

  • So nice! Custom front rack?

  • @Vanneau @scottparsley Thanks!

Yeah, custom rack and forks. There's a cp thread for moar details, belated crossposting.

  • If you can afford 4000 for a frame why not?, but I can say for certain, it would not make my commute home any quicker or any more fun, I'll stick with my bastardised Day One for a while, unless the dollar gets fucked and exchange rate becomes extremely favourable (very unlikely).
If he can make a decent living selling at that price, fair play, and if enough rich kids wanna spend that kind of money, more fool them.

  • Looks great. Lovely frame and like the bar tape too.

  • This is awesome.

  • You can buy one on bikepack.pl for 60e, another from ktm.

  • Sick one @Paradroid !

  • Buy what SPD ?

  • J'ai pas compris
