And that's with a 1600g frame! Dolan would have been 5.3kg, sub 5kg not hard. Rear wheel could lose 150g easily. I could get 120g by running those ridiculously light Schwalbe tubs that are cheap on Merlin at the moment.

5.7kg.
Moar drillium plz.

first time i've ever seen an anachronistic hashtag!

By their very nature, hashtags aren't very anachronistic.

Hub polisher
That's where your "-ish g" is coming from.
Will no-one think of Dammit?

Give it its first trial here....

Should be a laugh!

Bit of a trek, and it's the day after a 100m TT so probably won't be on top form.

100m TT
Sounds doable. Plenty of rest time.

Alu or steel for remaining sprockets? Cast your votes now!
-
• #313
carbon

• #314
Seems like it'll be for the hill climbs only and you know you'll have to replace them often so my vote goes to aluminium. Token make some very light ones that also feel a bit more sturdy than those golden jobbies.

Fibre-Lyte.
-
• #316
Do fibre lyte make sprockets?
-
• #317
I was being facetious: he didn't specify front or rear sprocket.
-
• #319
No such thing as a driving sprocket. A chainwheel drives the chain which drives the sprocket.

Experimental Prototype in Sweden used to make a custom ratio 11-23 road bike cassette with eight of ten cogs made from carbon fibre ..

I expect it cost more than I've spent on this in total! You wouldn't be able to cut threads into carbon fibre, could probably make a White Industries splined one though.

They were Euro 300 pieces built to order .. and that was a few years ago
IMHO .. a high load situation like a hill climb the small weight saving isn't worth the risk of shearing a tooth on a fixed carbon fibre cog and DNF'ing.

No such thing as a driving sprocket.
I didn't know that.
I understood a sprocket was a toothed wheel that engaged with (e.g.) a chain, rather than another toothed wheel, regardless of being driven or the driver.

Hmm, perhaps you are correct.

Here we are then... lightest possible weight is just under 5.65kg (39 x alu 19t), goes up a bit if I don't use a steel sprocket or steel sprocket, but should still be under 5.7kg. Race wheels feel crazy! Spin up immediately. Tub glueing is a bit suspect on the front, but they've only got to get me up and down a few hills.

Weight its without the bottle cage, obviously.
