I am no cat expert, but this sounds like an unhappy cat to me. new environement? other pets in the house?
-
• #4403
No new pets, but it is a relatively new environment for her. About 3 weeks I suppose. She is showing no other unhappy cat signs though, she's eating, cleaning herself, purring, and very sociable.

Try to use the same kind of litter that she used to use, as sometimes they get arsey if they don't like the brand you're putting down. Also try getting a second litter tray (and filling it with the same brand of litter she used to use) and moving it around the house, as she might also object to the location you've chosen for the first tray (where is the first tray, btw?)
The usual recommendation other than that is to put the litterbox where she's peeing but that's not going to be much use if it's by the front door or on your OH's sister.

Or maybe she is just showing you who is the boss? Patch used to poop either in the bedroom or in the litter tray without covering it whenever I ignore her or have a visitor she doesn't like. Now she is as good as gold!

The thing is, she's using the litter tray all the time, and normally wees and poos in there. I think there's only five occasions in all that she's gone elsewhere in the house, so it doesn't seem to be an aversion to the litter tray. She's seemingly used it happily from the day we brought her home.
She seems to just be trolling us, but then she's so sweet the rest of the time I don't think she means it.

Oh yeah she didn't piss on the bed while OH's sister was in it. That would have been worrying.
She said that she had read cats sometimes like pissing on feather duvets - which made us think she had accidentally shut the cat in the room and was trying to cover it up.

She once peed on Me Julie's pajamas - but Tesla was locked in the room.
She never peed anywhere else.
I know her son Newton had a UT issue, and IIRC you said she wasn't drinking as you'd expect?
Also her daughter Mini had a similar issue but that was thought to be due to the cats outside bullying her.

We use Worlds Best Cat Litter btw.

A good avenue of investigation. Maybe she's peeing at the door because she was trying to go outside, but got caught short on the way once. After doing it there once, it's maybe just become an emergency pee-area.
-
• #4414
It's definitely not an emergency, I saw her doing it on the door mat a couple of weeks ago and she was really chilled, and she has never been out of the front door so although she's curious I wouldn't have thought she'd associate it with somewhere she goes to pee.
OH's theory is that it's when she's had a stinky shit in the litter tray and it's raining outside, and that because she's done it there before she thinks she can do it again.

I'd probably bin that door mat and scrub the area do any scent is gone.
We didn't have a litter tray at all for the majority of her life and she never peed inside other than when she was locked in, so this is deffo odd.

TIG (another mini-Tesla) had UT issues and was pissing on the wall next to her litter tray for a while. She also went through a faze of shitting in affy the workshop dog's fluffy bed. More fool her, affy just ate it....

So is Ada the only mini-Tesla who hasn't had issues yet? Of course, maybe she has, and we've just blamed Newton. (also, she had 3 girls and a boy? For some reason I always assumed she had 2 of each).

• #4418
Yep, she had 3 female and 1 male, mainly I think to troll Coldharbours wife.

Don't wind her up again Neil, it's only me that suffers.
Can you please just try and view things at a population level.

Ever since I started drying my Patch, she now expect it. That says she only allows me to dry her with tissue or kitchen towels... and she looks like she really enjoys it... #catsareweird
-
• #4421
Yeah, we started doing it because she kept coming in and meowing when she was wet - now she goes to where we keep the towels and meows until she gets pampered!
-
• #4422
just out of interest, does anyone look at the produce date on their cat's tins? For some weird reasons, I tend to avoid tins that are older than a couple months... I mean, they are tin food, they are not fresh. End of. Maybe I am weirder than my cat.

Having had fucking fussy felines and spent many a meal time discussing, with the afore mentioned feline, why they won't eat the cat food but will quite happily eat cheese and lick butter.
Tesla has found a couple of creative places to wee. A couple of weeks back she used the door mat inside our front door, so we got rid of it. Since then she has pissed on our mail which lands where the mat was a couple of times, which isn't a great state of affairs. This is despite her having not only a litter tray, which she has otherwise used reliably, but now also having a cat flap which she happily uses. Also while we were away at the weekend she pissed on the bed in the spare bedroom as well - where my OH's sister was sleeping.
What to do? Take away the litter tray as well to remove die Qual der Wahl? Is there any way to keep her away from the front door?
@Dammit did she ever get creative like this with you?
