  • I call photoshop ;-)

  • How are you now feeling, fully recovered?

Any things you'd change on the bike? Any parts worn out or broke. (Apart from the mech hanger)?

  • @gabes how did it go??!

  • @dancing james Not fully recovered, still getting some cramps in my calves here and there, but not feeling bad at all, and my strength on the bike is pretty beastly after riding a fully laden bike for 3 weeks.

Parts are worn, all the gears had to come off, and it's now singlespeed as I am skint!

@Fahrgestell Yeah, went great, 21 days and some hours. Weather was awesome, rode with some great people, met lots of great people, saw bears, cougars etc, all great.

  • My Van Nicholas Aquilo Di2 and work in progress on a Van Nicholas Zion 29.

  • Parts are worn, all the gears had to come off, and it's now singlespeed as I am skint!

Planet X sale on now, so far I've basketed 1x rings and brake pads...

  • Thanks Emyr,

I'm actually enjoying singlespeed, and now I am basically a huge cycling muscle, it's not as hard as I thought. It's bloody hilly around east devon, but I'm getting up most stuff on the SS. 32x19 is working well. Also, I have literally zero funds. I'm going to ride SS all winter, and put XT 1x11 on before the Highland Trail Race in May.

  • Yes, that's exactly what it is...

  • Forgot to post a 'finished' pic.

  • Nice! I know Graham from the Vintage Bike Cave also has one. It's quite a distinctive frame!

  • Just n+1'd on an Enigma Etape frame/fork...

Been wistfully reminiscing over my Ti Sabbath I sold out of poverty a couple of years ago and taking advantage of my Roberts getting re-painted by selling it on so when I saw it come up it actually ticked a lot of boxes for it's versatility with rack/fender mounts and still quite sporty geo. Basically, if it does what I want it to it's rendered the need for fast bike/tourer obsolete. So my tourer is going to become 1x10 off-road muddy bike.

Not received yet but going to have Ultegra 6700, which is first purchased Shimano groupset ever, and Chris King/open pro wheels... Will need to wait till Roberts sells to splash out on anything else but would like some appropriate finishing kit and nice 28c tyres.

  • Nice one. But please, do get some wide rims.

  • And a carbon seatpost.

  • mmm... they look promising. what's the non-brand OTP wide rim wheelset peeps were raving about a while back?

I paid a grand for frame, wheels and group so could sell wheels on (which look pristine) and recoup a decent chunk of that to get something less bling but wider I suppose-I'd like them to be sturdy enough for touring duties so would probably go at least 32h both front and rear.

TBH having just gone from Archetypes back to my light slimmer wheels on my summer bike I haven't noticed it too much, less than I did upon switching to the wider rim and thinking it was wizardry. I dunno why that is.

With all the riding I haven't been doing this summer I feel it may be a moot point anyway till by slack legs get sorted out.

  • Get 32/32 for touring yes.

  • Kinlin have a couple of rims that are 24mm external, 19mm internal. Perfect for 28mm+

Wheel thread has plenty of chatter

  • Woof!

  • that is lovely .. so much better than that canyon you were after.
Guard mounts on frame and fork?
    Y U 10 speed?

  • I 10spd 'cos it cheap, innit? Not too fussed about that extra gear anyway and also heeding @edscoble 's new mantra about 11 speed chain wear...

Other notes: downtube on the Enigma is fucking massive-but despite this frame is bloody light-and wheels look as under-engaged as an attractive virgin female at a Pet Shop Boys concert. Not. a. scratch. Seems the seller was a #probuyer and #shitsalesman or just #fuckingrich.

And yes, guard mounts on both, plus rear rack mounts. Ver' practical. Going to take a bit of getting used to the long head tube and higher stand over but very excited to get it built up...

  • ^Much like

  • bargain, those wheels look mint

  • :D

I was worried the freehub would sound awful but I quite like it... more like a TIE fighter scream effect than a normal clicky clicky. Just wondering what brake blocks I need to keep the braking surface looking so fresh? I thought open pro's lose their ano just by looking at them on a rainy day...
