  • Seatposts: I want to change mine from silver (cheap Deda alu) to black on my road bike for aesthetic reasons.

Weight is not a factor. Comfort level is currently high(ish) with a Brooks Swift.

Is there any benefit of going to carbon over alu? Any benefit of springing out for a Thomson or anything a bit blingy? I don't get spending lots of seatposts and stems but perhaps I'm missing something.

  • I think Thomsons are hugely overrated. They do last, but massively overbuild for road riding (worth it for mtb though) and ludicrously heavy.

Carbon will be much more comfortable, but if you're already comfy enough, just buy any decent alu post with a good quality clamp (that's the most important part really).
