  • re: latex for a commuter biek
couldn't imagine having latex tubes on my commuter, they loose a lot of pressure daily on my road bike, I need to pump it everyday, is it just on mine?

  • Innit, dunno why so many people are recommending them for commuters. Not like you'll feel the difference once you put commuting tyres on anyway.

  • I am led to believe that a 10psi drop overnight is normal for Latex?

Deffo would not bother on a commuter. Schwalbe do some extra light butyl tubes, but their normal ones are decent enough.

  • Latex on commuter is far from ideal but so is spending half your money on bikes.

I have them on all the bikes with decent tyres (pro4, kojak and strada tub) and don't mind spending extra 20 seconds pumping 10 psi every morning for the riding quality; that will be even quicker and easier once I get a compressor in the shed.

No point doing it with a marathon plus, or ribmo or any such atrocities.

  • No, latex is more porous or something and lets more air out. That's one reason they're stupid for commuting on. Anyone telling you otherwise is a #buyer with more cash and time than smarts.
