  • Still no front rack?

  • Racks are the last thing on my list at the moment =[ may even go for a frame with no rack mounts. We shall see. I'm tired. Ha

  • Ok, I was just curious. I found the thread looking for info about front racks on disc brake bikes :-)

Edit: didn't see last last couple of posts. What an idiot.

  • What a twat! Is he on 'ere?

  • No worries man, hope my comment didn't read as negative.

  • Not that I know of. Nevermind. All signs point to the 2016 equilibrium... Haha.

  • Not tempted by the kaffenback idea?

  • Every other hour yeah. But I don't like the idea of buying something to sell it later to buy something else. And the missus absolutely hates it. The one I go for will be the one I keep. Haha.

  • So the Aksium disc 6 bolt wheels are ordered.

Just need a frame to put all this crap on...
    105 5800 groupset (minus calipers)
    TRP Spyre disc brakes
Aksium disc wheels with gp4000s ii 28c tyres.
I'm really looking forward to building this up... When I get a frame...

  • So I listed all the weights of everything going to this build (accept frame, fork and headset)

Groupset: 2770g (minus rim caliper plus spyres and rotors)
    Wheels: 1965g
    Tyres: 500g
    Seatpost and saddle: 515g
    Stem, bars and tape: 535g
    Tyres and tubes: 680g
    Pedals: 372g
    Frame!?!?

    Total: so far... 7337g

So without a frame it already weighs the same as my road bike. Mental.
I've been looking this morning at the surly straggler now that I know it's gonna be a heavy shit either way. Looks like it builds quite nicely. I can't see me being hindered by the difference between a 10kg build and an 11kg build really...
Any other suggestions for the frame? Suppose the equilibrium 631 is kinda back on the cards as well. Hmmm. Or do I wait... I'm kinda moving away from wanting to spend £550 on a year round frame..

  • Slippery slope of weight calculation; I'd be surprised if it weighs less than 10kg even with a carbon fork.

Stay with the original plan of genesis I think.

  • Aye, not gonna be a weenie. Was just intrigued/bored. The 2016 equilibrium will weigh around 2.7kg I think so it'll be just over 10kg with that and headset and so on.
The straggler would make it around 10.5kg so not much difference but no carbon fork. I'm so impatient. The frame probably won't be released until December... Winter build... Haha

  • You've listed tyres twice...

My Straggler is about 12kg, but then again it's running a dyno hub, XT rear hub+cheap 8speed cassette/mechs, pump, mudguards, wired tyres etc.

  • Blimey. I have.
Intrigued / bored and apparently tired aswell... (Tyred? Ha).

So far then it's 6837g. Would be spot on 10kg (give or take) with the straggler. Then mudguards and rack and so on... Not worried about all the weight for the commute. 10kg would be nice for the road rides.

  • BE PATIENT!
As a long time impatient bastard, buying the bike you don't really want is not gonna work out, you'll be riding along, look down at the frame below you, and think, why the fook didn't I wait!

  • Haha. Aye. I know =[
I have a problem. This money is burning a hole in my pocket. I may have to spend it and save it up again just so I stop myself...

  • Something to distract me...
    Bottle cages.
Do I go for bent metal cages?
    Or a plastic cage?

    Gonna go internet shopping.

  • hard to get bottle out of; get the normal king cages.
Depends on what bottles you are intending to use.
Arundel stainless and Lifeline Titanium are nice and not that pricey options

  • Ah ok. I'll be using either some rapha bottles or spesh purist bottles.
I'll go check those suggestions out now. Thanks!

  • Specialized Road Rib cage works very well with Rapha bottles; I use it.

  • Hard to get bottles out of?!?! Grow some arms!

  • Hahaha.
So another one you and @amey can probably help with. Compressionless outers? Will the outers that came with my groupset (for rim brakes) be ok? Or should I pick some compressionless stuff up?

  • They won't be compression-less if thats what you are asking. Here is a cheap option: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-performance-brake-cable-set-shimanosram-road/

Keep the inners that come with groupset.

Are you going to build it yourself? Cut the outers clean and correct length.

I am getting pair of Spyre too for this build: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/273313/

  • There is a possibility the Spyre's will come with outers - I'm guessing as a bike I built when I was working in the shop came with cables already on it and a set of compressionless in the box.
