  • OK, so after a conversation with @Dom last night I'm pretty sure this is my plan.

I'll get the Cannondale Trail SL 29 2

Which I will hopefully price match down to £849 .

With the cash saved, I'll pretty much ditch the drive train and go 1x10. Probably getting SLX cranks and the SLX Shadow Plus rear mech (unless I've misunderstood and the current one does have a clutch?)

And whatever narrow wide chainring is reasonably priced (superstar maybe), I'd also go tubeless.

I don't really like that its 27.2 but I think if I get the Kind Shock LEV dropper I reckon I can be sneaky and attach the cable run along the hose for the rear brake or the guides for the FD.

Does that all sound sensible, if so I'll proceed?

  • Why SLX cranks? Just stick narrow wide ring on the stock ones?

I'd keep the cranks, get a single ring and a short cage Zee shadow plus mech.

Run the deore cranks & BB into the ground then upgrade to SLX.

Nothing wrong with Shimano octalink. It formed part of the original hollowtech.
