Mud and tradition are the only reason I can think of that you'd buy new canti's.
And aesthetics, I think cantis look better than v brakes. I know it shouldn't matter, but it does. And using the Avid cantis that are on the bike now, which aren't the best, a decent set of pads and stopping power is plenty enough for me.
