  • The G7 capo is great, doesn't pull out of tune at all but it doesn't clip on the headstock! Bummer. It's basically an ugly shubb then. Hmmmm....

  • Cute but I've already got a TU-2 and a TU-12!?!

  • Finally found a cab for my Solton head, £130!!! Bargain...

  • Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! What speakers?

  • ^^ Sweet Voxeh. Check what load that Solton wants TS... possibly recall 16 ohms, but...

  • Some Vox branded things, I'm sure they're not the best but I can replace them if they sound shonky... I'm gonna be overdriving the crap out of them anyway, sure they'll be fine...

  • Yeah, I'll check that out... I thought it had two outputs, could be wrong tho'!!!

  • Has your fishing gear arrived yet?

  • It's on the way... 🎣

  • Anyone fancy an EKO Ranger 6? Good campfire warrior, very solid. Lots of chips and marks but it plays okay. The bridge had lifted do I did a DIY neck reset with a walnut shim (reversible) to tame the action. Didn't fuck with the truss tod. Need some space. 50 quid?

EDIT: discovered it's actually a Rio Grande VI, FWIW.

  • I got gazumped on the speaker cab!?! Oh well... 😋

  • I've got a '73 Ranger 6, mine looks different to yours but yours is still an Italian model so 70's and super solidly built. I'd advise somebody buy this quick, based purely on how mine plays.

    GLWS

  • Now way I can live with red so

    Maple veneer neck shims

    Ghetto hardtail

  • Looks boss.

    Quiz question:

I'm near Stratford Westfield now, I have only public transport as I've just dropped off a Zipvan.

I need new valves for the Fender Champ. Can I get them and get home to Forest Gate in the next hour? If so, where?

    Go...

  • Nice paint, you do that? Shims are sweet too, need...

  • Just saw this. Would have been unlikely I'd have thought. The only place that used to stock a selection of valves in town was Regent Sound but they were pretty pedestrian; Groove Tubes and EHs. Plus 6V6s aren't anywhere near as popular as EL84s and 6L6s so I'd be suprised if they had any of them.

I'd just place an order from Watford Valves for some nice NOS bits. They probably sell a Champ kit for not that much. I long since stopped buying cheap new Chinese and Russian valves. I found it was far better to spend a bit more on some nice old European toobs and have them last ten times longer without going tinkly and microphonic.

  • @tommmmmmm nice job man.

@rickster sweet Tele sounds! Where (and how) was that filmed?

  • Also: @Rickster if I were going to replace the pickups on my USA Tele, what would you recommend looking at?

  • Thanks for the reply.

I phoned the Vintage Guitar Boutique which looked the best bet and they said pretty much the same thing.

Did a bit of digging around yesterday and found that a lot of people playing Champs seem to go for RCA valves. Then I saw the price. The next most popular option seemed to be Tung Sol so I went for that.

All I bought was a pre-amp as the other valves were included, I'll see how they sound before buying more but for the 6v6 (if I need one) I might go for something a bit more special.

  • It's just B&Q rattle can over primer over rubbed down original poly finish.
Lots of imperfections which are fine by me as there's no way I was rubbing back to bare wood. Just wanted rid of the red and to do it within a day. If I was that bothered I'd just buy a new USA/Repro body already finished.
Copper shielded the routs and fixed up the wiring, now there's not really any hum.
Shims are easy, get a sheet of maple veneer from eBay and cut it with scissors. I punched the holes with a normal paper hole punch. It's 0.6mm thick and there's 3 in there. Could do with another really but can't be arsed. I'll wait and see how it settles.
Action is set same as my SG but this 'feels' like it plays higher, I think the neck relief is a bit baggy so I'll look at the truss rod at some point

  • Looks great man.

Don't Fenders always feel higher/stiffer than Gibsons with identical actions and string gauges on account of the longer scale length?

  • Yeah they do. Sort of feels like you're up a string gauge. I did need to decrease the neck relief a touch though now it plays better.
TBH I originally wanted the Gibson scale length conversion neck but Warmoth don't do it in the 1-3/4" nut width.
It's rapidly becoming (this morning) my go-to for country/blues picking
