  • found this website/blog, which looks lovely.
disclaimer: I haven't tried out any of the recipes, or read much of the surrounding text, but they look interesting and are nicely photographed. I'm a sucker for nice photo's and uncluttered layout..

  • Nice find, made my stomach growl. In keeping with the food-tastes-better-cold theme, Cold Wonton in Spicy Peanut Sauce.

  • Added a large marrow bone to my slow cook ragu recipe .. game changer

  • whats the rest of the recipe?

  • Nothing special .. dry rub brisket with sea salt pepper, little smoked paprika overnight, fry and seal, take out of pan and fry off carrots, celery, onions, garlic, add the brisket back, evaporate wine add 2x knorr beef stock pots, some water, tomato puree, sherry vinegar, big bunch of basil. Today I added a small bowl of barley to increase the quantity as I didn't want to shell out for a bigger piece of meat and the massive marrow bone (99p at waitrose). I have 4 meals now. About £2 a meal including pasta.

I haven't acquired a slow cooker yet so I just chucked this in the oven at 180/200 for 3 hours.

The marrow added flavored fattiness to it and the bone made it slightly gelatinous. Going to do this with every beef slow cook recipe now.

  • Sounds epic.Reminds me, I had the bone marrow and parsley salad at St John a month or so ago. Sublime.

  • @Amey the low cost of the meal would be even better if you'd used a slowcooker. The cost of the oven would be loads more than if you'd used a slow cooker. Tried adding a little pork in as well?

Making your own chicken stock and adding a couple of bay leaves would be a step up as well mate :)

  • Smoked paprika?!? In a ragu?!?

    Madness...

  • Made my own out of a bin and a terracotta pot.

  • Bone marrow, such pauper food ;)

  • Look at the fireplace when poking the fire ;)

Actually have you seen a monk fish?

  • Ha ha, am in La Belle france and eating fruit that tastes, awesome meats and veg with the orgin stated. But also have seen TV adverts for gnocchi that you fry to cook.

  • Most defiantly agree; it aches me every time I have to use the oven to slow cook anything. Can't wait to move out and have more space to get a slow cooker. (then a coffee machine)

1st thing I am going to make is a tonkotsu broth ..

The other option is pressure cooker.

  • Is it possible to live entirely off flat whites and croissants?

  • Depends how much disposable income you have.

  • @Apone have you tried the almond and chocolate croissant from Planet Organic? Game changer. Costs about three quid tho.

  • Oh my.

I genuinely have a bit of a pastry problem and have had to limit myself to one a week.

    Today was pastry day.

  • Apostrophe's almond croissants are like crack. I'm lactose intolerant but still can't keep my mitts off.

  • Last night I had tomatoes grown in a friend's garden, and this morning the awesome Cypriot office cleaner/general handyman brought in figs from his garden.

I want to grow all my own veg and fruit from now on. Much flavour. So taste.

  • Butcher next door to the brewery gave me some Iberico ham chops. Tips on what to do with them greatfully received.

  • Lucky you! Are they actually cured ham or iberico pork? Either way I'd probably BBQ or grill them as simply as possible. I think you can eat iberico pork a little rare. #notmyfaultifyoudie

  • They are Iberico :) I'll give it a go and see what happens. #livingontheedge
