  • I've had a Super Lightweight Jersey for 2+ years now, the white version with blue accents. It's still going strong, although the rear pockets have begun to sag b/c i over stuffed it on long rides.

The material is jersey mesh, has two different materials i believe (the side panels are a bit thinner).

I think the Super LW jersey is the "Classics" version of the Pro Team climbers... If you don't like the pro team fit or don't have the pro team bod, then get the Super LW jersey.

    Great jersey for summer.

  • :-?

  • Oh good, I just got that along with the chartreuse lightweight bibs, which should make for a nice (and not pricey) summer combo, if a little clashy.

  • For the price it's on sale for right now, you can't go wrong. When the temperature dips, I'll wear a long sleeve merino underneath and it works very well.

  • Both colour randonee shorts met with approval with the missus.
They are ridiculously comfortable, why doesn't everyone make trousers in this material!

  • Tested the Gabba out tonight, bloody lovely albeit still too warm for long sleeves at 15 degrees. It was cold and drizzly this evening so I thought I'd give it a go. I popped a PT baselayer underneath - I knew it would be borderline too hot. After about 10 minutes at tempo I unzipped the vents and the collar a bit and to be fair it was never unbearably hot. I can definetly see where the SS version would shine. So, I've just gone and ordered one using @pjay's link - cheers!

Sorry to hijack this thread with more talk of the Gabba (maybe we need to make a Castelli Gabba - nice but pricey? thread)

  • Princess Diana dead also

  • Anyone ridden in the Pro Team Softshell Base Layer yet?

  • @umop3pisdn @iPete So, this gabba is covered in road shite now - how do you guys go about washing it? Does it need Nikwax'ing?

  • yes; last winter; its great

  • I wipe using a thing and water until it really stinks, then wash at 30° with nothing more than a drip of Ecover (or nothing).

  • Will I regret not picking one up for £40 come November?

    #askamey

  • I've always just washed mine normally with whatever washing powder is to hand, this is probably wrong but mine still seems to work as a garment.

  • you have/like gabba? if you do then no .. its like gabba on the inside if you want to wear team kit

  • Yes I gabba.

I quite like the idea of extending the use of all the light jerseys/skinsuits into the bad weather though.

I didn't expect you to say no...

  • ha! I try and extend the same couple of jerseys almost all year with diff base layers so I like it. Plus Gabba fits weird for me. Gabba doesen't even make financial sense when you can get cheap rapha jerseys/base layers in sale/kilver court. And its ugly.

  • that base layer, phinney jersey and wind jacket under £150; more versatile less ugly kit IMO ofcourse other variables in the equation are DHB knee warmers, DHB unpadded tights (if too cold), Nanoflex arm warmers

  • If you ride coastal roads the soft shell base is amaze.

    Not ideal for climbing though.

  • And its ugly.

You've obviously never seen me in mine! ;-)

  • Soft shell base layer is brilliant for wet / cold races or high tempo wet rides less than 3 hours. It's very Snug. Seals in the heat without cooking you & breathable when not raining or warm . Shouldn't work, but does....

  • Is it any kind windproff? Thinking it could prolong the timeperiod of the non-jacket season a bit.

  • Very windproof.

Being able to ride in a SS jersey despite lowish temps is exactly why I bought mine.

Together with the thermal PT bib shorts you can mince around in silly temps while those around are in leg warmers and long sleeves.

  • As mine is bright yellow & is not for looking tarty I give zero f*cks about the grit marks up the back but I do wash it every now and then with nikwax. I got a load of the stuff cheap from Wiggle or similar ages ago.
