They're good for a mix of surfaces. I've got a cx sportive coming up and unless the ground softens a lot I'll leave them on - faster than cross tyres for that kind of thing.

Lovely bike And lovely build, here your are !
No doubt, your bike is an SMG. (who mean "welds and guaranties measures" in french)
The brand was founded by Jean Frelat, and based in Aulnay sous Bois in France (Paris region)
To my point of view, he is one of the most talented frame builder of his generation for race bicycle with Alain Michel, Mecacycle and Ganolo.
At the time, it's production were only for wealthy customers, and pro or semi-pro riders.
He filed several patent in bicycle industry:
First seat stays brazed on seat tube clamping screw. (1977)
Double Clamping Screw:
The SMG rear dropout are also a patent. These are track dropout brazed vertically, to ensure a perfect centering of the rear wheel.
He had also build frame for race service retailer, here is a similar to yours, build for the retailer Solander. Yours is build In Camu Aero 7 tubing set, probably with a columbus fork.

few of SMG's realization:
Here a SMG pic's compilation:

I hope it helped you ;)

I think the headset on the Pilorget is an awesome touch and really ties the bike together. Would keep as is personally. The bike is really nicely colour matched overall!

And a gold headset on a yellow bike is probably going to look rank

Funny to see this here. It was on sale on leboncoin almost complete(no wheels and chain) 1 or 2 months ago. The add was badly written with poor pictures, but this was a bargain. I tried to contact the seller, but he never replied.
A couple of weeks later, same bike, new price, cleaner and a nice add. I hope you managed to negotiate for a price drop. It's a nice bike with a really cool paint job. I want to see what you are going to do with it!

classy build, bravo. like the way the pedals and the stem have yellow accents to match the frame.

• #103563
That's pretty much perfect! Only needs setback seatpost maybe?
Black components on a yellow frame is so good. Just built up my Van Tuyl the same way, will post some pictures here soon.

I had no idea it was on leboncoin. I think I paid a fair price for it esp since it came with crankset, bb, headset, stem and handlebars.
So far I have taken the bike apart, cleaned and regreased all bearings, rustproofed the inside with a coat of linseed oil, drilled out the brakehole in the fork, tapped the cranks to take british pedals. Reassembled and fitted wheels, pedals and a longer stem from my prts bin.
Waiting for seatpost, brake, chain and compactbars to arrive and then I should be done. This bike will replace my current beater so its not gonna be a fancy build (but hopefully still nice).

Why did you sell such an awesome frame (if I may ask)? Making room for something new?
Mustn't be easy to find frames in your size.

• #103569
Thanks man! You've really sorted me out on this one. So hard to find a frame that fits!

True say

It was a tad too small for me to be honest and has been replaced with this De Rosa.
-
• #103572
Ha, too small even. I seen it (The De Rosa); it's epic.

@Malou @HACHA
SMG it is then :). Thanks for the information and pointers. Very interesting to read up on. I've now scanned pignonfixe, plenty of nice examples on there. Interesting to see they all look so different from each other. Mine has a monostay but not the integrated seatpost clamp.
My frame currently has a thick powdercoat (courtesy of a previous owner) but that'll probably change now. Looks like I need to track down some Stronlight Delta bits!
