So, forerunner 210 - I have today's MTB lolz on it, and I save the activity using the lap/reset.
I then look at the history and there's no record of the ride.
I then plug in to a mac, and there's no FIT file and the error log has been touched. I open the error log and there's no entry for today.
I unmount the garmin and fire it up, go to history, and low and behold, the activity has magically appeared.
I plug the garmin back in to the Mac and there is a new fit file with today's date. And it uploads to Connect just fine.
What could cause this? Garmin fluffs out writing the FIT file, but the Mac somehow automagically fixes it?

Would wish that it is Garmin says Howard and Gallic MTB big 'non' but rather had this myself with restart working. Garmin innit.

Mine and a friends 800's have done a similar thing in the last week (though ours had an activity in history just nothing in it) it must be some sort of bug due to an update it the only conclusion I can come too. Neither of us have had this kind of issue before.

I have an iPhone 5 + Edge 1000 and for about a week the Bluetooth upload feature worked absolutely fine. Even after Ride 100 when thousands of people were all trying to upload their rides...and now inexplicably my unit thinks it is Tuesday, and won't upload any rides over to my phone.
Why oh why is this technology so temperamental?

My HRM is crapping out, and either not registering any heart rate or giving a wildly lower BPM than expected. Changed the battery but still no joy.
Return it to Evans where it was bought, or send it straight back to Garmin themselves? Who is gunna fix the issue quicker?

Have you moistened the pads?
Garmin are decent with their service but I can't say who will be faster.
-
• #2560
All washed and moistened before each use ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-
• #2561
Do not start me on the heart rate monitor intermittent function after I started using it recently. Doubt very much yours is broken or the batteries.
-
• #2562
How did you wash it? The salt in sweat actually kills it, so it needs to be cleaned properly, irritatingly.
-
• #2563
I pop the electronics pod off, then get in the shower with the strap still on, makes sure that it gets a decent wash (I do take it off to do this).
-
• #2564
I just bin the soft ones in preference of the older-survive-a-nucluar-holocaust plastic straps
-
• #2565
I tend to shower with mine and whenever I wash sports gear chuck it in the machine.

OK, so I give up on my phone for GPS.
Given that the main use a Garmin'll get put to aside from GPS logging is getting me to and from WNKR rides, just how much would the lack of a backlight on the Edge 25 piss me off? -

Get the new etrex touch.

Hm, kinda tempting. It's obviously more expensive and not as svelte as the Edge 25 but the featureset's much more broad. The 35 and 35t support ANT+ for cadence as well, which I think would be interesting although clearly trivial to calculate when you're fixed!
I guess part of the bulk is because it takes AA batteries.
Good shout, I think, although the size of the Edge 25 is so tempting! -

In the market to replace my piece of crap 705. I like the look of the new 520, but worried I'll miss routeable maps even though I use it very rarely. But, would I be stupid getting an 810 seeing as it's getting on a bit now?
-
• #2571
I bought an 810 before the 600k I did in err.. May? It's great, now I've got it replaced and running Garmin maps. So, no, I don't think the 810 is really getting on a bit - it's a little nicer than the 800 I also have but they're both fine at what they do.

Take the battery out, flip it and put the cover back on and hold it there for a min. It'll reverse the polarity and (one you've put the battery in again) have it working again, for a bit.
The Garmin straps are shit. TBH it'll save a lot of faffing if you just buy one that has nothing to do with Garmin. These work perfectly even on ant+.
-
• #2573
Very very tempted by that. the fact it still take AA batteries help swayed me over from the ridiculously short battery life.
-
• #2574
im going to get one.
Just wish they'd do ant+ powermeter compatability. -

This any good. http://www.thisisant.com/
Right, so I'm trying to fudge turn alerts into an Edge 200 route.
As per this:
http://velogps.com/garmin-edge-200-turn-by-turn-directions/
I have added 'turn' information points to a route via bikeroutetoaster, saved as a .tcx, and imported onto the Garmin, but though the info points appear on the Garmin's breadcrumb trail as I go, I'm not getting the actual 'alert' coming up. Is there some key step I've missed?
