  • More supple tyres deform more over sharp object, the lower pressure also help.

Hence why Gatorskins tend to get quite a lots of debris stuck on it.

  • interdasting - I run my Gators 25c with low pressure and they give me rather huge puncture resistance.

  • Anybody got 2.4" mountainkings on 24mm internal width rims? Wanna figure out if I can fit them or not.

edit: looking for how wide they come out.

  • I've had 2.3" 29er tyres on a 16mm ID rim.

  • Ah I shoulda been more clear, I know they'll fit the rims but not sure if they'll fit my frame which is rated for 2.35 max but I know a lot of conti tyres come up smaller than claimed.

  • frame rating isn't a measure to basketput all ur eggz

  • Tubeless tyres for my mamil chariot.

40mm deep rims, 25mm wide, should I get 25 or 28 Schwalbe Ones?

  • on the subject of 28s, has anyone tried the Michelin Pro4 V2 Endurance 28s?

  • This is what I figured, did look like there may have been enough room, had a 2.25 ardent in with plenty of space.

  • The 28mm One weight 245g which is pretty reasonable for the size.

  • 24" tyres for general trail riding?

  • No love for Michelin lithiun 2 tyres? Took a punt based on good reviews and have put about a thousand miles on a pair with good results. At 25 quid a pair including tubes I'm a bit of a convert.

  • The Ardents run true to size, if that's any help.

  • I found the 2.4" closer to 2.3 on a 35mm rim - it's visually smaller than a hans dampf 2.35 which I expect is oversize anyway

  • Hmm, casing or tread width?

  • There really aren't many out there, probably best with a treaded DJ tyre like a Schwalbe Tabletop or DMR Moto Digger.

  • Will likely end up with Schwalbe Smart Sam's after having a look, only a temporary measure I think.

  • Think they were both pretty similar, will re-measure in the morning and come back with some real numbers...

  • There is something about race tyres. I get less punctures now with vittoria open corsa's than I ever had with Gatorskins. It might have more to do with the supple casing don't know but my commuting tyres are going to be Challange strada branch's because they are ace.

  • It also can be largely depend on the person, some people like to hug the kerbs which increased the likelihood of puncture tenfold.

Riding with race/high quality tyres made me slightly more aware of the road surface.

  • Fully aware with the right wheel.

  • So has anyone had a good bash at the Bontrager R4 320 clinchers yet? Trying to find a tan/natural sidewall tyre with nice roll where the sidewall is actually tan/natural and not actually the colour of earwax.

  • Do any London bike shops still do Michelin Pro Race tyres? I've checked all the usual suspects, but as suppliers all seem to have switched to other brands, they no longer seem to have any. I hate ordering on-line and always want to check all the shops first, but I'm increasingly thinking I can't avoid on-line for these. (I'm very inflexible in my brand allegiances.)
